Betsy Kelly Class of ‘03 Client Services Manager The Audio Department Recording Studios New York City I am a client services manager at The Audio Department Recording Studios in Manhattan. We are a post-production facility, with clients including VH1, Comedy Central, CBS, NBC, and Disney.  We do sound design and audio mixing, as well as a lot of voiceover work for video games, DVD's, and cartoons.

Amy Jones Class 0f ’99 Marketing Coordinator-Senior Living Charlotte, NC I am in Charlotte working as a Marketing Manager for one of the country's largest healthcare architectural firms. I also have a daughter, Avery Isabella.

Crystal Legends Class of ‘96 Morning Show Radio Host HOT 96 & 103.7 FM Greenville, NC I've been in radio a total of eight years now and am still loving it!!

I have been recognized by the NC Associated Press with an Honorable Mention as Rookie of the Year in TV Journalism.  I was part of the team that was awarded an Edward R. Murrow for continuous coverage of Hurricane Floyd and the floods that followed.  I recently published my first book, Images of America, Stokes County, in an effort of preserving local and regional vintage photographs that celebrate the history of my childhood home.  I am an Adjunct Professor of Journalism at Winston-Salem State University. Kristen Monte Class of ‘01 B.A., Journalism After spending five years writing for two business magazines in Philadelphia, I am now a legal editor with LexisNexis Legal News, in King of Prussia, Pa., for its lexis.com site. I write news stories, covering all verdict and settlement cases coming out of California. I am in my fifth year volunteering with the Philadelphia chapter of United Cerebral Palsy, and recently found the chapter's Young Leadership Committee, which focuses on fundraising efforts.

Laura Sawyer Brinn Class of ‘98 Manager, Marketing & Communications The Fuqua School of Business Duke University Prior to securing my current position, I was a public relations specialist at Duke University Medical Center for 2 1/2 years,  handling medical media relations and also several instances of crisis communications. Prior to that, (99-2001) I worked in the health care practice of Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide in New York City. I'm also completing the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program at Duke.

Mallory (Tripp) Liles Class of ‘89 Creative Director Sauers Communications Atlanta, GA I serve as creative director for Sauers Communications—a full service creative agency that specializes in publication and print design. Prior to this position I worked in Los Angeles as an editor for Marvel Comics and as director of development for television/film producer Zev Braun.

Michael Aho Class of '02 Administrative Aide Fairfax County (VA) Board of Supervisors Fairfax, VA. I have been employed by the Board of Supervisors for the last year and a half as an administrative aide. I received my Master's in Peace Operations Policy in May 2004 and also a Certificate of Training in United Nations Peace Support Operations in April 2004.

Olivia Hill Class of ‘02 Research Coordinator (Public Information Officer) NC Dept. of Commerce Division of Community Assistance Raleigh, NC I am responsible for designing all publications, dealing with all media inquires, planning all workshops/conferences, and handling all Web site updates.  I was very fortunate to have done my internship with the NC Department of Commerce's office of Public Affairs while a student in the School of Comm. It was a huge help in getting this job!

Will Stanley Account Coordinator American Red Cross Raleigh, N.C. I now work for McClatchy Interactive in Raleigh, N.C. as a Media Planner. I put together proposals for ad agencies that want to advertise on my companies network of newspaper.com sites, including The News & Observer, New York Daily News and the Miami Herald.

Steve Griffin Marketing Manager Duke University Fuqua School of Business Marketing and Communication Department I have only been at Duke for about four months. Before then, I was working as an Advertising Executive at the Herald Sun Newspaper. I am very excited and feel lucky to be able to work in a field (in which) I received my degree.

Jami Sheppard Class of '99 B.A., Public Relations I am currently the Executive Director for Summerville D.R.E.A.M. (Downtown Restoration, Enhancement and Management) in beautiful Historic Summerville, SC. Since the last update two years ago, I have finished graduate school (yah!) and my second term in office, had my first book published (co-authored by Howard B. Pate, Jr.) and moved to the Charleston area with my return to association work. It's a great life!

Allison Hardesty Bemauer Class of ‘01 BA in Public Relations I am currently the Office Manager for Copeland Real Estate in Beaufort, NC. I am also a wedding planner. After graduation I worked at the Carteret County News-Times in Morehead City. I am married and have twins that are 3 years old.

Sam Matheny My latest work was recently featured in several industry trade magazines, including Broadcasting & Cable, TV Technology and RCR Wireless among others...I am presenting at the National Association of Broadcasters Futures Summit in Pebble Beach and I recently presented at the Competitive Television Conference in Orlando.

Jim Matheny Class of ’99 BS in Media Performance   I am currently living in Greensboro, N.C., and work for the Interactive Video Group of the North Carolina Research and Education Network (NCREN) in Research Triangle Park, NC.  Additionally, I am a member of my company's Web site committee and serve as webmaster for portions of the MCNC Web site.

2LT Roderick Turner Merritt, Jr. USA Class of ‘02   I am now serving in the US Army.  Things are great!  My wife, Brandy, also a graduated from ECU in 2002. We have a 2-year-old daughter Ashtyn and a 1-month-old daughter, Savannah.

Dave Reichelt Class of ‘93   I’ve been the sports director for KPVI-TV since January of 1996, anchoring the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. sports Monday–Friday.  I’ve also been the radio voice for Idaho State University the past three seasons, calling both football and basketball for the Bengals.

Carrie Banks Class of ’91 BA in Journalism   I received my MA in Public Relations and Advertising from The University of Alabama in 1992.  I presently serve as the Communications Director for the Alabama League of Municipalities where I am responsible for marketing and public relations as well as the content, layout and design of all published materials. Update August 2007: I’ve just celebrated my 10th anniversary with the Alabama League of Municipalities.

Heather Quast: 

Heather Quast Heather Quast Class of 2004 BA in Public Relations I am the Catering Director and Special Events Coordinator for Capital One. I manage all catering, restaurant, cafe, and event services ranging from planning to setup and execution. Every day is different from running day to day operations with the restaurant or cafe or planning daily events such as a gourmet breakfast, specialty lunch, reception, or any other executive event that is requested. There are typically 5 to 15 catering events a day ranging from 10 to 1000 associates attending. I also manage all business aspects such as HR, Payroll, AR/AP, scheduling, safety and so on. Needless to say I stay busy but still manage to have a great time with my wonderful family and new friends in Richmond Special thanks to all of my professors who have taught me more than I could ever know and to Dr. Larry Auld for steering me in the right direction.

Heather Quast: 

Heather Quast Brent Anderson B.A. in Communication, minor in Business Admin., 1999 I currently serve as Vice President for Evolve, Inc., a full-service advertising agency located in Greenville. I am married to Amanda Hanks Anderson ('00) and I'm a proud father of a two-year old son, Chase William Anderson.

Heather Quast Kevin Hall B.S. degree in Mass Communications, 1994 I am the Sports Director for KGAN CBS2 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, KFXA FOX 28 in Cedar Rapids, and KDSM FOX 17 in Des Moines, Iowa. My broadcasting career started at WZMB, the ECU campus radio station.

Chris Loga PR with psychology minor, 1999 After a short stint in the corporate world, I realized that I prefer the non-profit sector. Since 2000, I have been working as a fundraiser/event planner for a 1,200-resident retirement community in Atlanta. I am looking to form a branch of ECU grads down here, I still miss LaVista and the tailgate. I am able to make it up occasionally, so if you are going to a game, give me a shout!

C. Scott Parker BS Communications; Minor Theatre Arts & Speech, 1990 bigdsp@1scom.net 817-741-7268-H Upon graduating from ECU in 1990, I went to work for American Airlines and Sabre Travel Network. I am currently living in Keller, Texas and recently left Sabre Travel Network after 15 years and went to work for Atlanta-based company Worldspan, L.P. as a Training Consultant. I'm married to a wonderful woman, Kristi, and we have a fantastic son named Benjamin.

Chelsea Donovan B.S. in Communication, 2004 Started out reporting for WITN-TV in Greenville in 2005, have since been promoted to the Jacksonville Bureau chief with same station as of the first of this year.

Sarah Elizabeth Watts BA, Double Major in Communication (Journalism Concentration) and Political Science, 2004 Comments: I am graduating law school from UNC-Chapel Hill in May 2007. I will take the Georgia Bar Exam in July 2007 and begin work in Atlanta at Jones Day, a large international corporate law firm, in September 2007. Thanks to all my wonderful ECU Professors — I haven't forgotten you and I appreciate you all very much!!! I'll always be a Pirate at Heart.

Kaley Ballard (nee Kowalsky) *Public Relations major and Business Administration minor I moved back to the Asheville area in Aug.'05 and was hired to teach business at North Buncombe High School Aug. '06. I'm also the NBHS swim team coach and currently working on my MAT through ECU online. I married Jeremy Ballard, ECU MBA graduate class of 2005, on July 7, 2007.

I counsel prospective students and their families on admissions criteria and related academic student life issues. I also plan and organize Multicultural Family Day for the University every Spring. I am currently in grad school at ECU for Counselor Education with a concentration in Higher Ed.
