Publications: 

Publications Nineteen new books published in 2007. MAA Members receive 20% discount on books. Creation of new MAA Textbook Series with special focus on publishing textbooks that serve upper division courses. Thirty textbooks in print and many under development. First four MAA Guides are under development. Small books of about 100 pages, written by experts who provide overviews of a large variety of mathematical topics. Each guide includes key definitions, theorems, and references.

MAA Online: 

MAA Online Major changes to MAA Online completed: Changes in MAA Online design and page organization. Addition of RSS Feeds to MAA columns, audio clips to Carriage House lecture stories, and podcasts with JMM invited speakers. Found Math Photo of the week on the front. New Math in News item everyday. Journals online: Monthly, Math Magazine, College Mathematics Journal More changes and improvements to come: More audio clips and podcasts. Possibility of blogs. New Job Bank (Math Classifieds).

Membership: 

Membership No increase in membership dues for 2009. Rates will remain the same as 2008. Member retention rates improved from 2007 to 2008. Spring 2008: Implementation of anniversary date renewal of memberships instead of calendar year memberships renewals. Significant research, discussions, and planning related to an anticipated restructuring of Institutional and Student memberships in 2009. Effort to increase awareness of the MAA and all it offers. Investigating how to approach international memberships in a more efficient and cost-effective manner.

Strategic Planning: 

Strategic Planning Cycle I completed: Professional Development, Revenue, and American Mathematics Competition (AMC). Cycle II reported to Board of Governors in January 2008: Final reports on Students and Governance. Membership group in progress. Governance: Structural improvements e.g. realignment of Committees and Councils; Strengthening Councils; Implement necessary bylaw changes. Students: Work with departments and faculty to restructure and strengthen student chapter program and graduate student memberships to broaden participation. Cycle III groups started their work: STEM Issues, Sections, and Meetings, Publications. Following Cycle III: Examination of overall mission and vision of the MAA; allow for integration of reports and reflection. Final reports are available at: www.maa.org/aboutmaa/sp (members only).

Over 400,000 exams taken on all grade levels. College and universities can host contests and strengthen ties with high schools and bright students. MAA co-sponsored participation of two four-member teams of high school girls in the 2007 China Girls Math Olympiad held in Wuhan, China, August 11-16, 2007. 2007 International Mathematical Olympiad held in Hanoi, Vietnam; USA team finished 5th internationally. Study Tours Mathematical Study tours for members offered as of 2003. Places visited: Greece, England, Mexico, China, and Euler Tour in Europe. Meetings: 

Meetings Mathfest, August 1-3, 2007 in San Jose, CA: Over 1,700 MathFest attendees; 300 through joint organizers. Jointly with Pi Mu Epsilon,  Society for Mathematical Biology, Euler Society, American Women in Mathematics and Women Count Conference. JMM in San Diego, CA in January 2008: Record number of attendees, over 5,600 total.
