TISSUES - PLANT TISSUES Class - IX

TISSUES - INTRODUCTION:

TISSUES - INTRODUCTION

MERISTEMATIC TISSUES :

MERISTEMATIC TISSUES Meristematic tissues are found in the 3 Meristematic regions in plants. The 3 meristems are as below : 1) Apical Meristem –Found in Root & Shoot Apices. 2) Lateral Meristem – Found in the nodes of plants . 3) Intercalary Meristem – Found in the internodal region of the plant.

PERMANENT TISSUES IN PLANTS:

PERMANENT TISSUES IN PLANTS SIMPLE These tissues are made up of only 1 type of cells. Examples- 1) Parenchyma, 2) Collenchyma , 3) Sclerenchyma . COMPLEX These tissues are made up of more than 1 type of cells. Examples – 1) Xylem 2) Phloem

FUNCTIONS OF SIMPLE PERMANENT TISSUES:

FUNCTIONS OF SIMPLE PERMANENT TISSUES Functions of Parenchyma : Storage As a ground tissue For performing photosynthesis as chlorenchyma . Functions of Collenchyma : For giving mechanical support & flexibility to the plant. Function of Sclerenchyma : Mechanical support to the plant.

FUNCTIONS OF VASCULAR TISSUES - XYLEM & PHLOEM:

Functions of Xylem : Transport of water from roots to leaves & stem. Transport of minerals to various parts of the plant. Function of Phloem : Transport of prepared food material (carbohydrate) from the leaf to various parts of the plant eg . Roots , Stem, Flowers ,Fruits etc. FUNCTIONS OF VASCULAR TISSUES - XYLEM & PHLOEM

LET US RECALL ……………….:

LET US RECALL ………………. What is a tissue ? What are the types of tissues found in plants ? 3.Where are the Meristematic tissues located ? 4. What is the main difference between Simple & Complex Permanent tissues ? 5. Draw the types of simple permanent tissues studied by you. 6. Find out the function of each simple permanent tissue & where they are located in the plant. 7. Name the cells found in a) Xylem & b) Phloem.
