This same year Galileo and William Shakespeare were born.Facts about growing up: Facts about growing up At 12, he became an apprentice to Domenico Ghirlandaio. Studied sculpture under a student of Donatello. Invited to Florence by Lorenzo d’Medici, where he studied Anatomy. At 23, recognized as a great sculptor.Family Life: Family Life Son of local minor Florentine official,and farmer. Mother dies in 1481, when Michelangelo was 6 years old. Father remarries in 1485.Obstacles Overcome: Obstacles Overcome Michelangelo’s father wanted him to become a Florentine banker or merchant, not an artist. An artist was considered a lowly job. His dad arranges for him to study under Ghirlandaio. Style of Art: Style of Art Marble Sculptures. Painting. Architecture. Poetry.Medium: Medium Marble, for sculpting. Chalk and ink sketches.
