GLOBAL WARMING :

GLOBAL WARMING Are we digging our own grave? What is Global Warming? Earth is naturally insulated by a delicate balance of heat-trapping (or “greenhouse”) gases in the atmosphere. When the sun shines on the Earth, some of that heat is absorbed, keeping Earth worm enough to support life. What went wrong? The problem is that over the last century, we humans have been releasing more and more carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases in to the atmosphere when we burn fuels and cut down forests. These additional gases have upset the natural balance of our atmosphere, trapping more heat than is healthy for the Earth. How have we hurt ourselves? Air: polluted by industrial gas, aircraft fuel, etc… Water: polluted by industrial waste, plastic, etc… Land: polluted by non bio degradable products and chemicals Signs Telling Us Everything is Not Common! Floods in the areas where the flood history is not common. Droughts in places, which were having good rainfall earlier. Atmosphere suddenly getting harsh in the terms of cyclones and thunderstorms. Life Forms Getting Affected: The butterflies have migrated from warn southern zone to cooler northern zone. Due to melting of ice the life cycle of penguins is getting disturbed leading to their death. The coral growth along the Great Barrier Reaf is getting reduced day by day. Looming Threats: Rising sea levels, leading to more coastal erosion, flooding during storms. Increased drought and incidence of wildfires. Severe stress on many forests, wetlands, and other natural ecosystems. Impacts on human health as mosquitoes and other disease-carrying insects and rodents spread diseases over larger geographical regions. Have we done anything to stop this? Who can make a difference? Government. Us. Steps which we can take: Replacing a regular incandescent light bulb with a CFL. Do not leave appliances on standby. Cover your pots while cooking. Use the washing machine or dishwasher only when they are full. Reuse your shopping bag. Plant a tree. Buy fresh foods instead of frozen. Start a carpool with your cowokers or classmates. Keep your car tuned up. Protect forest worldwide. Fly less. Let’s make our world a better place! The Time To ACT is now!
