8 “ Aal Eez Well” LESSON 1: When life appears to go out of hand and stress levels rise, the trick is to tell yourself that all is well and indeed, things will work out. During an insightful interaction in the movie, Sharman Joshi asks Aamir Khan how can simply saying “ Aal Eez Well” solve your problem? Aamir Khan’s response is that obviously saying this will not solve your problem, but saying this will help you relax your mind, focus on the challenge at hand and come up with the best way to deal with the challenge. In the movie, the protagonist played by actor Shah Rukh Khan, dying of cancer, teaches his friends this lesson. The complete dialogue full of inspiration is “ Jiyo , Khush Raho , Muskurao ! Kya pata , K al H o N aa H o!” Sameer Mathur, Ph.D. www.BuddingMarkets.com

14 Tumhara Naam Kya Hai Basanti ? BACKGROUND Jai and Veeru arrive at Ramgarh station. With no public transport available, they hire a local girl driving a horse-pulled cart to take them to the village. Basanti is a talkative girl. She proceeds to narrate her life story in the third person, the story of Basanti (herself), Dhanno (her horse), mausi (her aunt), Ramgarh (her village). While Veeru flirts with her, Jai stuffs straw in his ears in a futile bid to drown her voice. After enduring Basanti’s monologue all the way to the village, having heard her repeat her name many times, Jai sarcastically asks Basanti what her name is. 15 Tumhara Naam Kya Hai Basanti ? LESSON 3: Talking too much, too soon and with too much self-satisfaction puts you on a path to disaster. Avoid saying obvious things. They drown out the non-obvious, meaningful thoughts you express . Great minds have the faculty of saying a great deal in a few words. Similarly, lesser minds have the talent of talking much, yet saying little. Sameer Mathur, Ph.D. www.BuddingMarkets.com

“ Pheke Hue Paise ” DEEWAAR (1975) “Main Aaj Bhi Pheke Huey Paise Nahin Uthata ” = I do not accept money thrown at me, even today. Sameer Mathur, Ph.D. www.BuddingMarkets.com

18 “ Pheke Hue Paise ” LESSON 4: Self respect is more important than mere money. An individual’s integrity and strength of character is reflected in his refusal to do or say anything that would damage his self- respect. Self-respect knows no considerations. If you want to be respected by others, the great thing is to respect yourself. Sameer Mathur, Ph.D. www.BuddingMarkets.com
