HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is the virus that leads to AIDS. Blood, Semen, Vaginal Fluids, and Breast Milk are the four bodily fluids that transmit HIV. (Saliva, sweat, tears, and urine do NOT transmit HIV). HIV is transmitted by sharing needles/syringes, via semen and vaginal fluids, or from mother to baby through birth or breast milk.

Avoid sharing needles, or learn how to clean needles using bleach and water Abstinence is the only 100% sure way NOT to transmit HIV sexually.

Condom Club! : 

Condom Club! With a FREE membership, students can pick up latex gloves, dental dams, finger cots, and LUBE (flavored or non-flavored) for free! Students can also decide to purchase up to 50 condoms per day for only $5! Bring your Buck ID and any questions to the Student Wellness Center, in the RPAC between the hours of 3-5pm on Monday-Friday.

HIV Facts: AIDS has become a leading cause of death for African Americans. Black Americans account for 66% new infections among 13 to 19 year olds and 53% of new infections among 20 to 24 year olds. Black females are at even higher risk, with almost 70% of newly diagnosed HIV infections affecting black women. Overall, black Americans have an HIV infection rate eight times higher than white Americans African American women may not know of their male partners’ possible risks for HIV infection, such as unprotected sex with multiple partners More than 3/4 of the HIV/AIDS cases diagnosed for African American women during 2001–2004 were caused by heterosexual contact
