Fractions-history Were used already during 1800BC.
Babylonians invented it
In 1650BC, Egypt start to use them
In 100AD, the Chinese devise a system for calculation with fractions
1585, Simon Stevin sets out a theory of decimal fractions.
From the 17th century, fractions are commonly used until today.

Fractions: What are they? :

Fractions: What are they? Example: Fractions is used in math to represent parts.

Fractions :

Fractions 1/2
2 is the whole number
1 represents the part
/ divide Numerator
Denominator

Fractions :

Fractions Fractions can be expressed as Percents, decimals and ratios
Example: ½ = 50%
Example ½ = 0.5
Example ½ = 1:2
Denominator of a fraction is always 100%
Example: ½ = the two is 100%

Fractions: Addition :

Fractions: Addition Example: ¾ + 2/3=?
Step one: common Denominator: 3, 4
Denominator: 12
Step 2: multiply nominator to give 12: 3x3=9 and 2x4=8
Step 3: 9/12+8/12= 17/12
17/12 is the final result

Fractions: Substraction :

Fractions: Substraction Substraction is the same as addition, except we do minus instead of plus:
Example on table: 4/7 – 3/5=?

Fractions: Multiplication :

Fractions: Multiplication 2 examples:
½ x 7/3= 7/6....just multiply nominator*nominator and denominator*denominator
Multiplication of mixed numbers:
3x2 ¾ =?
Result= 33/4

Fractions: division :

Fractions: division Example: 3:4/5= 3x5/4
Just switch the fraction‘s nominator with denominator..show on board.

Fraction: decimals :

Fraction: decimals ½ = just divide 1 by 2 = 0.5
¾ = just divide 3 by 4 = 0.75
Examples on board: 9/17
Result: 0.529
