Well-planned ergonomic efforts adapt the job to the person, rather forcing the person to fit the job.While Sitting at Your Desk...: While Sitting at Your Desk... Sit in a neutral posture Feet should lie squarely on the floor Position the monitor to the midline of your body Keep work that is done most often close to you, avoid extended reaching and twisting Keep wrists in a neutral position while using the keyboard If you must sit for long periods of time, take frequent ‘micro’ breaks, such as getting up to get a drink of waterEye Strain: Eye Strain Regular eye examinations Single prescription glasses, rather than bifocals Adjust the distance from the screen Clean the screen, anti-glare filter and glasses Alter general lighting in work area Blink regularly More often if wearing contactsNeck Discomfort: Neck Discomfort Raise document or use document holder to minimize leaning forward Raise screen so the top is slightly below eye level Lower chair or raise work height Keep work in midline of the bodyShoulder Discomfort: Shoulder Discomfort Lower keyboard or desk Raise chair, support feet Lower or remove armrests Drop shoulders, hang arms loosely to relieve muscle tension Adjust backrest so it’s not too high Adjust keyboard to keep upper arms vertical and forearms horizontal Sit upright with head in line with the body Raise screen to just below eye level Keep work/keyboard/monitor near midline of the bodyWrist Discomfort: Wrist Discomfort Keep wrists in neutral by adjusting keyboard height and angle Keep wrists and hands relaxed Drop the hands when not using the keyboard Position keyboard in the midline of the body Move the arm rather than over-stretching the palm Especially little finger reachesBack Discomfort: Back Discomfort Adjust the backrest to support lower back curve Move the backrest forward to support lower back Sit back with buttocks to the rear of the chairLeg Discomfort: Leg Discomfort Lower the chair height and/or work surface Use a footrest Shorten the seat pan so it doesn’t put pressure behind kneesOpportunity for Questions: Opportunity for Questions You do not have the permission to view this presentation.
