The Easy as Pi Circle Skirt Tutorial By Fabianna Dardati of the Petit Poix Blog http://www.petitpoix.blogspot.com with assistance from Julie H.Rose of the Scenic Turnout Blog http://juliehrose.blogspot.com

Easy as Pi Circle Skirt / Dress:

Easy as Pi Circle Skirt / Dress Measure the circumference of the area where the skirt will be worn. For example if you would like it to sit on your hips measure your hip circumference. If you would like to wear it as a strapless dress measure yourself just above your bustline. Add 1 - 2 cms for ease. http://www.petitpoix.blogspot.com http://juliehrose.blogspot.com

Use PI (π):

Use PI (π) π is the Greek letter “pi” which is approximately equal to 3.14. It is very useful when working with circles. Divide your circumference measurement by π, then by 2. Write down the result. http://www.petitpoix.blogspot.com http://juliehrose.blogspot.com

For Example……:

For Example…… Waist Circumference (+ ease) = 75 cms 75 divided by 3.14 (π) = 23.89 Round it up! Let´s say 24 24 divided by 2 = 12 Remember the result. Better yet, write it down. http://www.petitpoix.blogspot.com http://juliehrose.blogspot.com

Slide 8:

Fold / Dobladillo Fold / Dobladillo Mark the point of your calculation. From that point to how long you want the skirt to be. Mark a few more points the same way. Draw lines and cut. http://www.petitpoix.blogspot.com http://juliehrose.blogspot.com

Why Does π Work?:

Why Does π Work? Richard Fischbeck, inventor of the Randome Shelter; an emergency shelter made up of geodesic circles that can be randomly put together in a very short period of time explains, "Nature does not use π (pi).  Pi is merely an approximation.  Nature always builds with whole numbers. We have H 2 O, not HπO.” http://randome.info/
