' But God ! ' Ephesians 2:4-7 OIF 2007 Sermon Series

Bad News or Good News?(we need them both!):

Bad News or Good News? (we need them both!)

Review: The Really Bad News :(:

Review: The Really Bad News :( Eph. 2:1-3 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath.

Now For The Really Good News :):

Now For The Really Good News :) Eph. 2:4-7 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions — it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

Why did God do this for us?:

Why did God do this for us? ' God, who needs nothing, loves into existence wholly superfluous creations in order that he may love and perfect them. He creates the universe, already foreseeing - or should we way ‘seeing’? There are no tenses with God - the buzzing cloud of flies about the cross, the flayed back pressed against the uneven stale, the nails driven through the nerves, the repeated torture of back and arms as it is time after time, for breath’s sake, hitched up . . .

Why did God do this for us?:

Why did God do this for us? Here is love. This is the diagram of Love Himself, the inventor of all loves. ' - C. S. Lewis, The Four Loves

Why did God do this for us?:

Why did God do this for us? v. 4 His great love for us v. 4 His rich mercy towards us v.5,7 His display of rich grace v.7 His kindness towards us

How should we respond?:

How should we respond? Have you been made alive with Christ? Are you living the 'risen' life with Christ? Are you accessing the 'seating privilege'?
