Review: The Really Bad News :(: Review: The Really Bad News :( Eph. 2:1-3 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. Now For The Really Good News :): Now For The Really Good News :) Eph. 2:4-7 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions — it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. Contrasting the Bad and the Good!: Contrasting the Bad and the Good! v.1 Dead in Sin v.2 Followed world, Satan, sinful nature v.3 Object of God’s holy wrath v.4 BUT GOD! v.5 Made us alive with Christ v.6 Raised us up with Christ v.7 Seated us with Christ Together with Christ! What did God do for us?: What did God do for us? 1. He made us alive with Christ Connected with God as His child Enjoying His peace, joy, and power Actively serving His eternal purpose Transforming/growing new life What did God do for us?: What did God do for us? 2. He raised us up to the 'heavenly realm' with Christ From the place of darkness, despair, and decay to the place of light and hope, and renewal. From worldly values to Kingdom values What did God do for us?: What did God do for us? 3. He seated us with Christ It is a place of power and victory It is a place of privilege and authority It is a place of security and intimacy Why did God do this for us?: Why did God do this for us? v. 4 His great love for us v. 4 His rich mercy towards us v.5,7 His display of rich grace v.7 His kindness towards us Why did God do this for us?: Why did God do this for us? ' God, who needs nothing, loves into existence wholly superfluous creations in order that he may love and perfect them. He creates the universe, already foreseeing - or should we way ‘seeing’? There are no tenses with God - the buzzing cloud of flies about the cross, the flayed back pressed against the uneven stale, the nails driven through the nerves, the repeated torture of back and arms as it is time after time, for breath’s sake, hitched up . . .
