Arbor Day is an international holiday that encourages the planting and care of trees.

Slide 5:

It is a time when many people take part in efforts to repopulate local forests and other areas.

Slide 6:

In the United States, Arbor Day is recognized nationally on the last Friday in April. X

Slide 7:

However, many of our 50 states have special celebrations for trees on days other than that day.

Slide 8:

In Georgia (USA) , Arbor Day is recognized on the third Friday in February. Georgia’s state tree is the Live Oak.

Residents of North Dakota celebrate Arbor Day, on the first Friday in May. North Dakota’s state tree is the American Elm.

Slide 10: Around the world, more than 30 countries honor the importance of trees, during special celebrations.

Slide 11:

The people of Japan celebrate Greenery Day, in late April. This is the time when their Emperor and Empress plant a tree and seeds, as symbols of renewed life. Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko

In Mexico , Dia del Arbol (Day of the Tree) or National Tree Day is celebrated on the second Thursday in July.

Around the world, Arbor Day is a special celebration of trees enjoyed by people of all ages.
