Overview Hello everyone, welcome to the PowerPoint tutorial workshop. I am an interactive sample presentation. I will help you to learn the fundamentals of Microsoft PowerPoint.

Microsoft PowerPoint History : 

Microsoft PowerPoint History Long line of history Introduced shortly after the launch of Windows 3.1 by Microsoft. Later included in Microsoft Office Most recognized versions being PowerPoint 97, 2000, and XP (2002) In this module, we will focus on PowerPoint 2002 (a.k.a. PowerPoint XP)

Creating a new presentation : 

Creating a new presentation You have the choice of creating the presentation from a template or from scratch. File -> New… ( Blank presentation or From template ) Here are some basic tools used in creating a new PowerPoint Presentation: Background ( Format -> Background… ) Text ( Insert -> Text Box ) Pictures, Clip art ( Insert -> picture… ) Movies ( Insert -> Movies and sounds… )

Creating a new presentation To see an example of an inserted textbox To see an example of an inserted picture To see an example of an inserted movie clip This is a sample text box, border and fill effects have been added in order to show the actual box. The border and fill can be turned off in the options menu.

Advanced tools : 

Advanced tools In addition to the basic tools… Some of the more advanced tools include… Custom animation ( Slide show -> custom animation ) font SE including emboss and cast shadow ( Format -> font… ) Slide Transition ( Slide show -> slide transition ) Hyperlink to website, programs or dynamically link to other presentations (Insert… )

Custom Animation : 

Custom Animation PowerPoint has the ability to animate entrance and exit of text and pictures. To see the step by step instructions on creating a custom animation Highlight the item you would like to animate ( ie. A text box or a picture), click on the textbox to continue… 2. Click on Slide Show from menu bar, and choose Custom Animation… Click on the screenshot to continue 3. Select Add Effect and choose Entrance, Exit, Emphasis or Motion Path… Entrance – Animate the entrance of the object Exit – Animate the exit of the object Emphasis – Emphasize the object by animation after entrance Motion Path – Control the direction of motion of the object animation. Click this text to continue… 4. After choosing a desired effect, you have the option to modify that effect… Start – Adjust the starting time of the effect… Speed – Adjust the speed of animation. It is also possible to add sound and triggers to your animation with Animation options… Click this text to continue…

Font Special Effects : 

Font Special Effects PowerPoint has the ability to modify the effect of the text presented, most used effect include drop shadow and emboss. To see the step by step instructions on adding the font special effects… Insert a text box by clicking on Insert, and Text Box…Map the area of the text box by clicking on the slide and drag the text box to a desired size. Click on the sample text box below to continue… 2. Choose Format and Font… option from the menu bar. Click on the screen shot to continue… 3. Select The desired font option to modify… Shadow – Add Shadow to the selected text Underline – Under line the selected text Emboss – Add 3D emboss effect to the selected text. Super script – Display text in upper half of the line, position can be adjusted Sub script – Display text in lower half of the line, position can be adjusted Click this text to continue… 4. Slide Transition : 

Slide Transition In addition to custom animation and font special effects, PowerPoint will also allow users to add slide transitions to their presentations To see the step by step instructions on adding the slide transition effects… Click on Slide Show and Slide Transition… from the menu bar. Click on the Screenshot to continue… Select a Slide Transition Theme from the list of themes and adjust the additional property from the Modify transition section if necessary. Action Settings : 

Action Settings The Action Settings feature in PowerPoint provides the users with the ability to dynamically link text, pictures, and videos to other PowerPoint slides, web sites, and programs. To see the step by step instructions on defining an action setting… Click on Slide Show and Action Settings… from the menu bar. Click on the Screenshot to continue… Choose either the Mouse Click, or the Mouse Over tab, and modify the Action settings. Hyperlink to – Allows the user to link the object to a slide or a website. Run Program – Allow the user to run a specified program. Run Macro – Allows the user to run a recorded custom macro command. Click this text to continue…
