Co-sponsored by MIT’s School of Engineering and the MIT Sloan School of Management, the System Design and Management (SDM) master’s program in engineering and management educates mid-career professionals to lead effectively and creatively by using systems thinking to solve large-scale, complex challenges in product design, development, and innovation. SDM provides a global mindset; a systems thinking perspective integrating management, technology, and social sciences; and ways to lead across organizational and cultural boundaries to address rapidly accelerating complexity and change in today’s global markets. The curriculum of MIT’s System Design and Management Program integrates leadership development and critical, creative, and integrative thinking with an appreciation of diversity and an understanding of how to foster positive change within organizations, society at-large, and—most importantly—within oneself. SDM Mission : SDM Mission “To educate future technical leaders in architecting, engineering, and designing complex products and systems, preparing them for careers as the technically grounded senior managers of their enterprises; “To set the standards for delivering career-compatible professional education using MIT’s most advanced information and communication technologies.” “This is a program for those who want to lead engineering, not leave engineering.” Program Overview : Program Overview Join sponsorship – School of Engineering & Sloan School of Management Single Degree – S.M. The January period includes: Cohort-building events A robotic design challenge Two academic courses A broad systems thinking design challenge Orientation to SDM and MIT Individualized degree planning The Business Trips : The Business Trips 5-day “trip” to MIT each term (3 times/year) Course related “specials” Faculty “face-time” Thesis advisor meeting time Cohort (re)building Special speakers – ie.
