David “Mission is Life” Slide 2: World Christian Teamwork Purpose: To recognize that all are called to take a vital part in world evangelization. You Are Called… Introduction: : Introduction: All Christians have a responsibility towards the fulfillment of the Great Commission. World Christian teamwork is more than the interaction between goers and senders. With world Christian teamwork, the task can be completed. Slide 4: Becoming a World Christian -A world Christian is one who captures God’s vision and the vision in turn captures him/her. -3 Steps to mobilize a group of Christian to become World Christian: 1. Motivation 2. Integration 3. Specialization 1. Teaming Up With God Slide 5: Step 1: Motivation “Catch the Vision” Step 2: Integration “Keep the Vision” Step 3: Specialization “Obey the Vision” Three Steps to Becoming a World Christian Mission Accomplished God’s Vision 1. Catch the Vision( Motivation) : 1. Catch the Vision( Motivation) “World Christians” are ordinary believers whose lives have been transformed by extraordinary vision. They have seen the world as God has seen it, they begin to dream God’s dreams and have a sense that there is a global cause. You catch the VISION and the vision catches you. 2. Keep the Vision (Integration) : 2. Keep the Vision (Integration) Take the vision now and begin to work it into day-to-day walk with Jesus Christ. Everything we do as a Christian is keeping the vision. Rudolph Flesch said, “You see thing; and you say “Why?” But I dream things that never were; and I say: “Why not?” 3. Obey the Vision (Specialization) : 3. Obey the Vision (Specialization) Specialization is obeying the vision, and is something that goes on for the rest of your life. To obey is better than sacrifice. 1Sam 15:18-19, 22-23. "Now the Lord sent you on a mission, and said, “Go, and utterly destroy the wicked people, the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.' "Why then did you not obey the voice of the Lord? Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being king.'' Slide 9: B. Apostolic Passion Apostolic passion is a willingness to suffer and to sacrifice anything in order to see Christ’s name glorified among all nations. -Apostolic means: - a sent one or - a messenger Those who have apostolic passion are planning to go, but willing to stay. Slide 10: Apostle Paul- his ambition or passion is to make Christ known. Human enthusiasm cannot sustain apostolic passion. If you have apostolic passion, you are the most dangerous people on the planet. You are no longer seduced by getting and gaining, but devoted to spreading and proclaiming the glory of God in the nations. B. Apostolic Passion Slide 11: C. Finding Our Role G M W I S -Serving as: Goers Senders Mobilizes Welcomes Intercessors Slide 12: Every believer is called to be involved in the task of world evangelization, the Great Commission, but not all are called to go out cross-culturally. A zeal for the spread of the gospel can be lived out in many ways. Each person must discover which role God has equipped him to play effectively. “The share of the man who stayed by the supplies is to be the same as that of him who went down to the battle” (1Sam 30:24). 1. Serving as Goers : 1. Serving as Goers Ten Steps but divided in to three phase: -PHASE ONE: Getting Ready -Stretching Personal Spiritual Formation -Who you are- your character and spiritual formation as a disciple of Jesus Christ-are essential to the role you will play in missions. -Make sure your spiritual foundation is solid -Find a personal mentor Slide 14: 2. Body Boost-Getting On-the-Job Experience in Your Home Church -Understand your church’s unique vision, how the church functions for missions. -Find your place and gifted role in it -Making disciples in your home culture -Investing in the supporting of missionaries will better equip you for the day when you may be on support. -The most relevant preparation for church planting in another culture is participation in and significant responsibility on a church planting team at home. Slide 15: 3. Exposure to Other Cultures - Understand others -Appreciate diversity -Learn other languages 4. Basic Education -Academic preparation for a short or long term ministry needs to be customized to your experience, skills, and gifts. -PHASE TWO: Getting There- Linking : -PHASE TWO: Getting There- Linking 5. Church or Agency Contact and Candidacy -What sending group or “team” is the best “fit” for you as the vehicle for service? -Begin with input from your home church. -Continue with agency you know best. -Check out their theology, model of ministry, vision and leadership. -Talk with several until you find a few with whom you are compatible on the major issues. Slide 17: 6. Assignment Search -Who are they? -Where are they? -Know what God has done and doing, and keep the candle burning… - then, how can your gifts be used to reach them or to build up the national church? -When God’s gifting and assignment become clear, you are ready and willing to step out in obedience as a committed team player. Slide 18: 7. Hands-on Missionary Training -Figure out what kind of practical missionary training and/or advanced training you’re going to need. -Develop into three important dimension: a, character and spiritual qualities b, ministry skills, and c, knowledge. -Greatly focus on the place and the people to whom you ministered and play the kind of your missionary role. -PHASE THREE: Getting Established-Bonding : -PHASE THREE: Getting Established-Bonding 8. Apprentices and Internships -Educational experience is not enough to be effective missionary. -A structured internship is the best way for new missionaries to learn the ropes and the rules of the game in another culture. 9. Life-Long Learning: On-the-Job-Field -Establish a life-long learning pattern to finish well. Slide 20: 10. Finishing Strong -God’s pilgrimage is rich and vast. -Few leaders finish well.
