Who Am I?:

Who Am I?

Who Am I?:

Who Am I? A Poem by Dietrich Bonhoeffer German Lutheran pastor, theologian, and martyr

Who Am I?:

Who Am I? Bonhoeffer was imprisoned by the Nazis for his role in a plot to assassinate Hitler, and was executed in April 1945, just 23 days before the Nazi ’ s surrendered

Who Am I?:

Who Am I? calmly, cheerfully, firmly like a squire from his country house. They often tell me I would step from my cell ’ s confinement

Who Am I?:

Who Am I? They often tell me I would talk to my warders freely and friendly and clearly as though it was mine to command

PowerPoint Presentation:

Am I then really all that which other men tell of? Or am I only what I myself know of myself?

PowerPoint Presentation:

restless and longing and sick, like a bird in a cage, struggling for breath, as though hands were compressing my throat,

PowerPoint Presentation:

yearning for colors, for flowers, for the voices of the birds, thirsting for words of kindness

PowerPoint Presentation:

for neighborliness, trembling with anger at depotisms and petty humiliation

PowerPoint Presentation:

tossing in the expectation of great events powerlessly trembling for friends at an infinite distance… weary and empty at praying, at thinking, at making, faint, and ready to say farewell to it all

Who Am I?:

Who Am I? This or that other? Am I one person today, and tomorrow another? Am I both at once?

PowerPoint Presentation:

A hypocrite before others, and before myself … a contemptibly woebegone weakling

PowerPoint Presentation:

or is something within me still like a beaten army, felling in disorder from victory already achieved?

Who Am I?:

Who Am I? They mock me, These lonely questions of mine.

Whoever I am…:

Whoever I am… thou knowest, O God, I am thine!
