SPANISH RESULTS: SPANISH RESULTS 46 Spanish students answered the “Awareness of Human Rights” survey, 34 girls and 12 boys. Declaration of Human Rights- Respect to individual liberties- Skin colour: Declaration of Human Rights - Respect to individual liberties - Skin colour All Spanish students have heard about the Declaration of Human Rights. 65% of our students think that our government respects individual liberties (22 girls and 8 boys), but some of them think that individual liberties are not respected (7 girls and 1 boy). Most of our students state that equal rights are extended to people regardless of skin colour (26 girls and 7 boys), while only 8 girls and 4 boys say the opposite. Religious discrimination- sexual preference discrimination- protection by law: Religious discrimination- sexual preference discrimination- protection by law Most students think that there is no religious discrimination (25 girls and 9 boys), but 6 girls and 2 boys think that we can find religious discrimination in our country. Half of our students have the impression that there is no discrimination because of sexual orientation and the other half have the opposite impression . If we compare the results between boys and girls , girls say that there is discrimination because of sexual orientation while boys opine that this discrimination doesn’t exist . Most of our students are sure that everybody is equally protected by law in our country. Freedom – Asylum – Protection against violation: Freedom – Asylum – Protection against violation Most of our students are sure that freedom is guaranteed in Spain but 9 girls and 2 boys believe the contrary. There is the nearly the same number of people (most of them are girls) who don’t know if the legal system provides remedies for people whose constitutional rights have been violated as of those that are sure that the legal system provides them. More than half of our students don’t know if people from other countries can seek asylum in Spain while only 13 know that you can seek it. Awareness of Human Rights Organisations: Awareness of Human Rights Organisations On the one hand , the awareness of the existence of organizations having to do with human rights is important among our students and the same happens related to their knowledge about the fact that everybody has the right to citizenship in Spain. But , on the other hand , more than half of our students ( especially girls ) wouldn’t know where to go if their rights had been violated . Freedom of thought, religious freedom and freedom of opinion and expression: Freedom of thought, religious freedom and freedom of opinion and expression A high percentage of students are sure that there is freedom of thought, religion and expression in Spain but it is interesting to see that 20% of them don’t know about this fact. Education – Lifestyle - Opinion: Education – Lifestyle - Opinion As far as our students are concerned, males and females are treated equally, although a considerable amount of them believe that this is not true. More than half of our students declare that they have never violated somebody’s rights but 22% of them recognise that they have violated these rights. Equality of sexes – Violation of rights: Equality of sexes – Violation of rights According to our students, education is available to everyone and they are sure that they have the right to express their opinion without fear of being punished, but a high percentage believe that they can be discriminated because of their lifestyle.
