The trees had slept through the dark, chilling winter, waiting…:

The spring had brought blossoms, Like tiny puffs of pink satin clinging to the branches.:

Summer brought the budding. Making the orchards a lazy, deep green.:

But my brother and I always liked the fall the best. Fall brought the apple harvest.:

Apple trees blanket the landscape, Dotting every corner of the town With red dots bright as crayons.:

My family would wait for the perfect day. “Not too hot and not too cold,” Dad always said. :

Apple picking, apple picking, lots of fun. : 

Apple picking, apple picking, lots of fun. How many bushels till the apple pickings done?

The orchards looked like a giant maze, Trees going on and on to the skyline. : 

The orchards looked like a giant maze, Trees going on and on to the skyline. My brother and I smelled the sickly, sweet scent of fallen apples, Sitting silently awaiting ovens or the apple butter kettle.

Apple butter, apple butter. Stir, stir, stir. Can’t stop stirring or the butter will burn.:

We would pick as many as we could stuff into our baskets. Eating as many as we could fit in our stomachs. Sticky hands and sticky smiles.:

Sometimes Dad would let us climb to reach the apples! Branch after branch, Up to the sky!:

The birds would whisper to us from the tree tops. : 

The birds would whisper to us from the tree tops. Telling my brother and I where the biggest apples were.

Run! Run! Through the trees, go faster than the wind. Hurry!Hurry! Quick! Quick! The biggest apple wins!:

The bees would follow us from tree to tree As they examined every apple with a soft buzzzzzz. Dad said the bees helped make the apples.:

Soon Dad’s voice would call out from somewhere far away in the trees. My brother and I would gather our delicious loot and race back through the maze.:

Picked Macintosh, Red Delicious, Granny Smith, and Rome : 

Picked Macintosh, Red Delicious, Granny Smith, and Rome Gala, York, Jonathan, Empire. Now were going home.
