Premium member Presentation Transcript Disquietude : Disquietude A meditation on life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness Slide 2: I cannot reconcile my spiritual beliefs to agree with any authority serving in any capacity whose principles of leadership come from the pages of Saul Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals.” Slide 3: I cannot live in happiness or peace If I lose the liberty that so many have shed their blood to come by and preserve. Slide 4: I cannot maintain loyalty to any political party whose elected officials do not follow U.S. Constitutional law, which we the people have entrusted them to do. Slide 5: I cannot claim to have any common sense and not be concerned about recent actions and policies that are in direct conflict with sound fiscal practices. Slide 6: I cannot justify the disparity between political correctness and my inalienable rights, which despite the explicit protection granted by our Republic against this, are being taken away by a majority of voters. Slide 7: I cannot believe that the welfare of every citizen will be served by a national healthcare system when cost-cutting measures will result in the rationing of medical services for the elderly and chronically ill. Slide 8: I cannot foresee any benefit to protecting our environment from global warming with a Cap and Trade system that will not only result in the largest tax increase in our country’s history, but will allow pollution to continue, electricity prices to sky rocket, and government favors in issuing “right to pollute” permits to prevail. Slide 9: I cannot compromise my values for the sake of maintaining good relations with anyone who disagrees with me to the point of not respecting my right to uphold the principles that govern my love for God, family and country. Slide 10: I cannot remain neutral about what is happening to our country and not be reminded of the words of Martin Luther King, Jr.: “The hottest place in Hell is reserved for those who remain neutral in times of great moral conflict.” Slide 11: But what bothers me the most is that I cannot hold these truths in my heart, and not be concerned about those in power and those in peril who do not. Founding Fathers : Founding Fathers An army of principles can penetrate where an army of soldiers cannot. - Thomas Paine Any society that would give a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both. - Benjamin Franklin Founding Fathers : Founding Fathers Liberty cannot be preserved without general knowledge among the people. - John Adams The marvel of all history is the patience with which men and women submit to burdens unnecessarily laid upon them by their government. - George Washington Founding Fathers : Founding Fathers In framing the government which is to be administered by men over men the great difficulty lies in this: You must first enable the government to control the governed, and in the next place, oblige it to control itself. - Alexander Hamilton Founding Fathers : Founding Fathers A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine. - Thomas Jefferson All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent. - Thomas Jefferson Slide 16: Is life so dear or peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death! -Patrick Henry Slide 17: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. --That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.
