I Can describe Producers and Consumers and their characteristics:

I Can describe Producers and Consumers and their characteristics By: Barbara brock and Andrea Suarez

Producers (autotrophs):

Producers (autotrophs) Make their own food/energy through the process of photo/chemo-synthesis. Photosynthesis is the process of making food by capturing light energy and using it to power chemical reactions that convert carbon dioxide and water into oxygen and energy-rich carbohydrates (like sugars and starches) Chemosynthesis is using chemical energy to produce the carbohydrates that the producers live off of.

Consumers/heterotrophs:

Consumers/heterotrophs The opposite of Producers. They can’t produce their own food, they are classified by what they eat. (omnivores, herbivores, carnivores, detrivores, and primary/secondary consumers) omnivores-eat both plants and meat herbivores-only eat plants carnivores-only eat meat detrivores-eat the dead remains of plants/animals primary consumers-1 st level of consumers, (a.k.a. herbivores) eat producers secondary consumers-2 nd level consumers (a.k.a. carnivores) eat primary consumers
