What is Asperger Syndrome?: 

What is Asperger Syndrome ? A neurobiological disorder that forms part of the Autism spectrum Disorders . The “ Autism Spectrum ” refers to a range of developmental disabilities which include autism and other similar disorders . Symptoms differ in combinations and degrees of severity

History: 

History Named after Hans Asperger ( Viennese pediatrician). First to describe it . He notice they had normal intelligence and language development, but poor social and communication skills with peers. Known since 1944 Most of Dr. Hans Asperger’s patients were male .

Diagnosis: 

Diagnosis Difficult to diagnose. 2/10,100 children have it. Boys are 3-4 times more likely to get it then girls. No specific ethnicity, or region has it.

SYMPTOMS: Obsessive interest in a single object and/ or topic (e.g. a pattern or music) Peculiarities in speech and language skill (“robotic” or “scripted”) Lack of interaction with peers. Odd behavior or manners Clumsy or awkward movements Difficulty to pay attention . Usually have average or above-averaged intelligence

Cause: 

Cause Causes are not yet fully understood. POSSIBLE CAUSES: Structural and functional abnormalities in the brain regions . Heredity ( research being done to find possible link with genes, depression, and bipolar disorder).

Prognosis & Treatment: 

Prognosis & Treatment NO CURE. Yet, with effective treatment AS people can learn to manage it. Socially and they will still be challenge, but with support they will be able to do it. AS people are able to work in jobs successfully.

TREATMENT: They earlier the BETTER! Usually it is therapy. Therapies help in the most fundamental symptoms: Communication skills Obsessive and repetitive routines Clumsiness Specialize educationists may help. Language therapy. Social skills training.
