Steps to a Healthier NY Jefferson County Steps Youth Survey 2005 Presentation Outline: This presentation will include: 1. a brief reminder of the evaluation process for the Steps grant in Jefferson County, and 2. a summary of the findings of the 2005 Steps Youth Survey. Local Evaluation – Process and Planning Summary: Year 3 Workplan has been approved Workplan includes Interventions and Objectives Each Intervention includes an Evaluation Matrix Each Evaluation Matrix describes the Process Measures and Local Impact Studies to be used to evaluate the objectives PM’s and LS’s at times require IRB approval JL and PSM completed IRB training at NYSDOH on 9/29/05

Local Evaluation – More Details for Local Impact Studies More Details: Strongly recommended by NYSDOH & CDC So far in Jefferson County, LIS have been well received (Asthma Awareness Campaign Evaluation) Future Plans – Tobacco NRM Distribution, Asthma again, any others that are logical and do-able

Physical Activity Jefferson County teens are far more likely to meet the vigorous activity requirements (65% NYS in 2005, 63% in US in 2003) Jefferson County teens are far more likely to meet the moderate activity requirements (22% NYS in 2005, 25% in US in 2003) Highlight:

Tobacco Use Jefferson County rates of current smoking are similar to NYS rate of 18.7%, nationally in 2003 the rate was 22%, Jefferson County is very high compared to other Steps Counties (B,C,R) A clear trend with age (grade level) is present Highlight:
