Project Showcase 2007 LMS Evaluation Project

Who Am I?:

Why Me?: 

Why Me? The LMS team sent an email to all supervisors. In my previous job I had worked as a trainer for their LMS.

How to Begin?: 

How to Begin? Needed to define project brief – too wide! Meet with the LMS team – October 2006

What Was My Project?: 

What Was My Project? To evaluate the implementation of the new Library Management System (LMS) across OULS

What?: 

What? Evaluate how staff perceived the implementation of VTLS. NOT an evaluation of VTLS itself. Communication Administration Training

Who?: 

Who? All OLIS libraries. 549 people who had previously been trained. Plus new starters, term time only staff, etc..

When?: 

When? Training was due to re-start on November 15th 2006. Go-Live was set for December 18th We wanted feedback BEFORE the training began… So I had 1 month!!

How?:

October 2006 Introduction to OULS staff through OLIS News. Weblearn Training with OUCS

November 2006: 

November 2006 9th November – VTLS Go-Live is postponed… Onwards and upwards with creating the questionnaire.

December 2006: 

December 2006 In the festive edition of OLIS News everyone receives a paper copy of the questionnaire The questionnaire runs from December 15th until January 12th.

January 2007: 

January 2007 The Questionnaire closed on January 12th. 89 responses – 56 online, 33 paper. January 15th we picked winners. Announced in February OLIS News.

Results: 

Results COMMUNICATION Most people felt informed OLIS News most popular method People wanted to be kept informed by email 90% had heard of the LMS Website, 69% had used it. 80% knew who to contact.

Results: 

Results ADMINISTRATION 76% were happy to book through supervisors. Only 27% wanted to book for themselves. 91% really appreciated the email reminders. Most felt the training was at the right time had the Go-Live date stayed the same.

Results: 

Results TRAINING 78% of people already knew about Osney. 83% people found the course materials helpful. But only 53% knew they were available online. 23 people wanted online training. Certificates were a big NO!

Presentation #1: 

Presentation #1 14th March I presented my findings to the LMS team. Just as the new training was being organised.

Evaluation: 

Evaluation New Skills Different aspect of Librarianship Too early in the Trainee year? Hard to evaluate effect as not directly influenced my own library.
