Premium member Presentation Transcript Inter-American Network for Labor Administration (RIAL)Origins and current situation : Francisco Pilotti, Director María Claudia Camacho, Specialist Department of Social Development and Employment, SEDI, OAS Meeting of the Working Groups of the XIV IACML San Jose, May 8-11, 2007 Inter-American Network for Labor Administration (RIAL) Origins and current situation The origins of the RIAL : The origins of the RIAL XIII IACML, Brazil, 2003: Orders a feasibility study for the creation of a mechanism to strengthen labor administration under the IACML 2003 - 2005: Study was elaborated and joint OAS-ILO proposal was presented before the XIV IACML Preparatory Meeting. XIV IACML, Mexico, 2005: Plan of Action requests the OAS to explore funding sources for the RIAL and continue discussing its functioning 2006 - 2007: Canadian Labor Program provides funding for the RIAL and activities are initiated What is the RIAL?: What is the RIAL? It is the mechanism for cooperation and technical assistance of the Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labor (IACML) of the OAS. Objective: strengthen the institutional and human capacities of ML, through an integrating mechanism for dissemination of knowledge and experience It is coordinated by DSDE of the OAS, as IACML Technical Secretariat, and has the collaboration of the ILO What does the RIAL do?: What does the RIAL do? Identifies, systematizes and disseminates programs and projects undertaken by the ML Fosters critical transfer of experiences and lessons learned Facilitates communication between ML, international organizations and civil society Improves the ability of the ML to identify their institutional needs and to formulate proposals to receive technical and financial assistance Strengthens coordination and collaboration among international organizations and cooperation agencies RIAL Tools: RIAL Tools Workshops and Seminars Portfolio of Programs Websites and virtual fora Studies and policy papers Videoconferences RIAL Newsletter Cooperation Fund RIAL Themes: RIAL Themes The thematic areas of the RIAL are adjusted according to the priorities identified by the IACML Currently, the RIAL themes are: Labor market policies, particularly employment services Labor rights of migrant workers Articulation of labor, social and economic policies Social security Occupational health and safety (OHS) Gender perspective in labor policies Activities undertaken by the RIAL: Activities undertaken by the RIAL 1.
