It is especially valued when it is a wedding gift from the husband.Slide 3: Papua New Guinea – Kakonaru – Southern Highlands Sing – sing – Spirit dance – The Huli tribe.Slide 4: Goroka – Papua New Guinea – Festivity of Independence The Goroka Show is a probably the most known tribal gathering and cultural event in Papua New Guinea. It is held every year close to the Independence Day (16th September) in the town of Goroka.Slide 5: Tari – Habu With men of the Huli tribe, we see how some men get dressed in the traditional style and taste. Tari Is the centre of Huli country in the Southern Highlands province of Papua New Guinea. It is the second largest settlement in the province, and accessible by road from Mendi.Slide 6: Goroka – Papua New Guinea – Festivity of Independence About 100 tribes arrive to show their music, dance and culture. This festival started in the mid 1950s from the initiative of missionaries. In recent years it became an attractive tourist destination because it is one of a few opportunities to see the traditional tribal culture.Slide 7: Goroka – Green Spiderman -These days the Goroka show is partly a tourist event, but it’s a rare opportunity for travellers to experience the customs of over a hundred tribes that populate the Papua New Guinea highlands. They are wizards who only work with people who have fine heads of hair. What a traditional wigman does is use ancient magic to make hair grow faster than normal so it can be cut off and turned into a wig. Evidently, magic – like hair restorer – doesn’t work if the hair is long gone.Slide 16: Goroka – De Biami Tribe The tribesman suggests a forest spirit for those under the spell of a giant snake. They belong to a tribe, an ethnic group, the mudmen. Neighbors scratch each other’s names and dressed themselves in the victims ’spirits’ and were dancing on the ground. The Papuans really do believe in spirits and their deceased ancestors are kept very much in honor. Tribal face paints in Papua New Guinea – Ornament – the bill of a hornbill - Hornbills are a family of birds. Hornbills are found in Africa, Asia and Pacific Northwest. The bill, much to those of the unrelated toucans reminiscent, in many species is brightly colored.
