Slide 7: Lesson 2 Tobacco Addiction addiction : addiction A physical or mental need for a drug or other substance Physiological Dependence : Physiological Dependence Is a type of addiction in which the body itself feels a direct need for a drug. Psychological dependence : Psychological dependence Is an addiction in which the mind sends the body the message that it needs more of the drug. Slide 11: Lesson 3 Choosing to be Tobacco Free Withdrawal : Withdrawal Is physical symptoms that occur when someone stops using an addictive substance. Secondhand smoke : Secondhand smoke Even if you are not smoking , you may be breathing air that has been contaminated by tobacco smoke Sidestream smoke : Sidestream smoke The smoke coming from the burning tip of the cigarette Mainstream smoke : Mainstream smoke Smoke that goes directly from the cigarette into the smoker’s lungs. Passive smokers : Passive smokers Nonsmokers who breathe secondhand smoke become Passive smokers.
