Changes I am going to make:

Changes I am going to make By Ben Robinson

Music:

Music

Music fades:

Music fades Four people felt that the music although suited my production, at times cut too suddenly. Due to how many people felt this way, I plan to ensure that when any music stops, there is an obvious fade.

Opening music:

Opening music Despite only one person in my feedback suggested that I needed music at the start of my production, I personally felt it is a necessary change to make because of the lack of sound at the very beginning of my production.

Sounds:

Sounds

Seagulls:

Seagulls Throughout the production process, the sound of the seagulls has been a controversial area. This is because the seagull sounds were originally placed so it began when the map of Newquay came to the screen. After watching the film through I took the seagulls out from this point as I did not feel that it was suitable for the shot. I did however, put them back in at the point when the main character is walking down to the beach. The reason for putting the seagulls back in was due to the responses to my music/sound questionnaire. Although the feedback from my rough cut indicated that having the seagull in my production was necessary, two people thought that the seagull were too noisy and overpowering and I tend to agree. Therefore, I will be reducing the audio of the seagulls down to a more suitable volume.

Titles:

Titles

Film Title:

Film Title Three people suggested that I change the colour of the Film title, this was due to the current colour being very close to the colour of the surfboard, which the titles appeared on. This is one change I will definitely be making because I want the title for my film to be clear.

Editing Pace:

Pauses:

Pauses Two people thought that the pauses between actions were too long. Therefore, I aim to look through the film and shorten any pauses that can be shortened. However, I fear that very few will be able to be shortened due to their importance in what is going on.

Creative Editing:

Creative Editing

Interviews:

Interviews It has been suggested that I make my interviews more visually interesting. To achieve this, I plan to have keywords jumping out onto the screen in a creative and interesting way to educate the audience as well as keep them interested. The reason for editing my interviews this way is because it is something I have seen in other media texts and has worked well. Below is an example from ‘Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World’.

Edits to inform:

Edits to inform It has been suggested that adding creative editing to other shots within my production would also be beneficial. One particular shot that would benefit highly is the shot where the main character is attaching the board leash to his ankle. Therefore, I aim to do a similar thing to the interview shots but this time I shall add labels and arrows highlighting the important equipment. Below is an example from the TV show Punk’d where this is done to introduce characters.

Mini animations:

Mini animations Due to the target audience being young children/teenagers, it would be appropriate to add small animations to some of my shots. One shot this could work in is the shot where the main character falls off of the surfboard, at this point I could add an animated fish jumping out of the waves with a speech bubble. This would add comedy as well as reaching out to the target audience. However, this would mean researching how to create an animation using the editing software. Below is an example from ‘(500) Days of Summer’.
