Introduction: 

Introduction Today we begin our unit on foreign foods. We have discussed how various regions and countries within the world have different cultures than ourselves. Thus you will be dividing up into pairs and creating a virtual trip to the country or region you drew.

Task : 

Task Working in groups of two the student will research a foreign country, its people, food, and customs. You will create a scrapbook of your virtual trip. Your scrapbook will include: General information on the region. This includes a map as well as information on the  agriculture of the region. Travel information. You will need to include how you arrived at your destination, how you plan to move around within the country, and where you will be staying. You will also need to list what you spent on travel. Food - Glorious food. You will need to include three dishes that you enjoyed while traveling your country. This will mean that you need to include not only pictures but recipes for each new experiences. 

Process : 

Process Part 1- Research your destination Where is it? Find a map that shows its location. What is the geography like? What type of agriculture is there? What customs are different in your location compared to where we live? What do the people do for a living? What do they wear? What do the people like to eat? Find three dishes from the region and recipes for them? Here are some useful links. Encyclopedias and sights with facts on countries Cultural profiles created by the Canadian government The world fact book - This is created by the CIA and is an excellent source for maps Britannica Wikipedia Travel information - This site can be used to price travel. Geograpic.org - This site is great for maps, flags, and tons of information. Foodnetwork - This site might have some great recipes for you to used. Global gourmet - Here is another site to find recipes for your food from a list of countries. Ethnic and region cuisine - Here are some recipes for various areas of the U.S.

Process (continued) Part II- Create your scrapbook Work with your partner to create your scrapbook. It may be done on paper or digitally. Your choice. You must include: The name of the country/region and a map that shows its location. Information on 3 points of interest within the land. Information on local customs and people. How you plan to travel to the region.  How you plan on moving around within the country/region. Where you are planning to stay. Also you must include the cost of your travel arrangements. 3 local foods and recipes for them. 5 pictures of your trip. This may include the food you would try, scenery, or pictures of the people.

Conclusion : 

Conclusion You have now had the opportunity to visit your country, if only in your mind. However, like any good vacation you must now tell your friends about the trip. Then we will follow the sharing with a cooking session to try some of the new cuisines you have found.
