Haul Your Anchor with the Alderney Ring www.boat-angling.co.uk

What is it? :

What is it? A method of raising an anchor without a winch – and without much effort

You will need: :

You will need: A buoy or fender A metal ring

Slide 5:

The ring slides on the anchor rope and connects the buoy to the rope. The buoy must be large enough to float the combined weight of anchor and chain.

Slide 6:

The ring can be solid, or with an opening as here. The opening and clip allows the ring to be attached to the anchor rope after the anchor is dropped.

Slide 8:

To raise the anchor, you power your boat against the tide following a curved path AROUND the point where the anchor is

Slide 9:

Here is the sequence in diagrams and photos, starting with the boat at anchor...

Tips :

Tips Practice first, in a sheltered, shallow area Don’t use this method if other boats are very near Never attach your rope anywhere except at the bow Always watch the buoy so you know where the rope is If you lose sight of the buoy, drop back and start again
