A method of raising an anchor without a winch – and without much effort You will need: : You will need: A buoy or fender A metal ring Slide 5: The ring slides on the anchor rope and connects the buoy to the rope. The buoy must be large enough to float the combined weight of anchor and chain. Slide 6: The ring can be solid, or with an opening as here. The opening and clip allows the ring to be attached to the anchor rope after the anchor is dropped. Slide 8: To raise the anchor, you power your boat against the tide following a curved path AROUND the point where the anchor is Slide 9: Here is the sequence in diagrams and photos, starting with the boat at anchor... Slide 10: Position 1: Top View Slide 11: Position 1: Side View Slide 12: Position 2: Top View Slide 13: Position 2: Side View Slide 14: Position 3: Top View Slide 15: Position 3: Side View Slide 16: DON’T RUN OVER YOUR ANCHOR ROPE!!! Slide 21: The anchor will be hanging under the buoy Slide 22: Pull the rope in, coil it up neatly and then lift the anchor aboard....
