The awards are in two parts: Our “Best in Show” which rewards the best of our scene (including “Best Ben Affleck Film”); and the “In the Doghouse Awards” which acknowledges cinematic badness (like “The Biggest Jerk In The Theatre Award”). Be sure that the Oscar voters say the same thing. Second, one sure way to inform yourself about these titles is to listen to Culture Dogs, Sunday nights from 8-9 PM on 91.3 FM WWUH West Hartford, 89.9 FM WAPJ Torrington or streaming on the internet at wwuh.org. You can also go to culturedogs.org for local film links, reviews and more. However, for those of you trying to look out for these films before WWUHFfies voting closes on March 25 (see notice on inside cover), here is a handy list of nominees available on DVD as of this writing (late January, 2007). All of these are nominated for two or more WWUHFfies each in our “Best in Show” categories: A Scanner Darkly Lady in the Water Brick Clerks II Crank Hostel Inside Man Night Watch Block Party Factotum Little Miss Sunshine Mission Impossible III Other films up for two or more awards, that are out on DVD, but must be ordered online are Deborah Scranton’s The War Tapes and Jim Finn’s Interkosmos. The following multiple nominees are due out on DVD between February 6 and March 13, allowing some time for viewing before March 25 (release dates subject to change): Hollywoodland (02/06) The Departed (02/13) Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny (02/27) Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (03/06) Casino Royale (03/13) Shortbus (03/13) Over the Hedge Slither V for Vendetta (The Departed, Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan and Casino Royale are also winding up their theatrical runs at this writing.) Three other films among the multiple nominees that have not yet been announced for DVD release: Apocalypto, F**k and Police Beat. We’ve nominated four dozen other films in single categories. They should be variously available in theatres, on DVD or Cable. Your write-in’s (if any) must be feature films that made their Hartford or area premieres between December 31, 2005 and January 1, 2007.
