Educators, Technology and 21 st Century Skills. Dispelling the Five M yths : A Study Connection Between K-12 Technology and 21 st Century Skills Administrators’ Perceptions of their Schools with Emphasis on 21 st Century Skills

The Findings ::

1. A dministrators seemed to be more aware than the teachers of the term 21 st century skills: 2. Teachers who were infrequent technology users did not place the most emphasis on the 21 st century skills as frequent users do. 3. Majority of the administrators believe that their schools very strongly emphasized 21 st century skills. 4. A dministrators have somewhat stronger perceptions of the positive effects of technology on students behaviors associated with the 21 st century skills and engagement in learning than teachers. 5. Administrators have somewhat stronger perceptions of the positive effects for students of the following skills: 5.1 Communicating thoughts effectively in visual form 5.2 Analyzing information 5.3 Being open to diverse perspectives 5.4 Communicating thoughts effectively in written form 5.5 Understanding the global issues and implications for their work. Interactive Film Scenes for Tutor Training in Problem-Based Learning (PBL): Dealing with Difficult Situations:

*Background Problem-based learning (PBL), tutors play an essential role in facilitating and efficiently structuring tutorials to enable students to construct individual cognitive network and have a significant impact on students’ performance in subsequent assessment. * Methods Major interactive obstacles arising in PBL tutorials were identified from prior publications. Potential solutions were defined by an expert groups. Video clips were produced addressing the tutors role and providing exemplary solutions. Trainees provide pre- and post-interventions self-efficacy ratings regarding their PBL –related knowledge, skills and attitudes. * Results Interactive online tool for PBL tutor training was developed comprising 18 video clips high lighting difficult situations in PBL tutorials to encourage trainees to developed and formulate their own intervention strategies . Tutors considered the videos to prepare them well to respond to specific challenges in the future to prepare them in the future tutorials. The entire training , which comprised PBL self-experience and video clips as integral elements self-efficacy with respect to dealing dealing with problematic situations. * Conclusion The interactive tool with instructional video clips is designed to broaden the view future PBL tutors in terms of recognizing specific obstacles to functional group dynamics and developing individual intervention strategies.
