Slide32:

The rate of prevalence of Disability is of an 11%, and represents 370,053 panamanians. One in every three homes has a person with disability, being the prevalence higher in the rural and indigenous areas. The average age of people with disabilities is of 44 years for men and 47 years for women. The greatest percentage (20%) of people with disabilities is found among the older adults (40 – 64 years) and in women. The Provinces and Indigenous regions with major prevalence are the provinces of Veraguas with 15.6%, Kuna Yala with a 15.3% and Herrera with a 15.1%

Slide33:

In the homes where there is a disability, the proportion of women being head of homes is higher than for men. There are more people with disability in homes with a lower economic capacity. The illiterate population with disabilites is represented by a 36.4% of the total of surveyed illiterate people, a situation that is higher in women more than men. The higher the level of education, the lower the percentage of people with disabilities that reach that education.

Slide34:

It was found that the population with disability that lives in the indigenous areas, has 7 times more risk statistically of having accident and work related illnesses, than those who live in urban areas. The autonomy and independence is a highly valued condition by the population with disability, because that means respect, dignity and a great sense of usefulness to them. This is observed by the great demand in technical assistance and access to the physical environment. In the three areas, urban, rural and indigenous, multiple disabilities are of greater prevalence. In the urban and rural area, visual and physical disabilities are of major incidence, and for the indigenous areas, visual, organs, systems and physical.

Slide35:

61.8% of the people with disability The 11.5% of the people with one or more disabilities got them from the childhood, from 0 to 9 years old, considered the stage of forming the personality of the human being. The working illness (47.9), the accidents (45%) were the causes of most of the physical disabilities.

Slide36:

The risk’s analysis showed a significant statistic important in the associations, showing these elements as factors of risk: Female sex Visual, hearing, physycal, intellectual, organs and systems disabilities in the indigenous regions.. Psychiatric and intellectual disabilities for the urban areas. Moderate and severe disabilities for the indigenous and rural areas. Disabilities since birth for the provinces of Bocas del Toro, Cocle, Darien, Los Santos and Embera Region
