James Cook (1728-1779):

James Cook ( 1728-1779 ) In the 16 th &17 th centuries, the english,french& Dutch sailors remained busy in finding a route to the last Indians either by north-east . it is rightly believed that the Spanish and Portuguese sailors had touched on the west coast of Australia in the 16 th century, but they gave no information about it except showing certain patches on map calling at terra-Australia in their early maps. The rivals for sea power in the 17 th century were England and Holland. Both had recently stated east India companies.

In the mattes of exploring australia,antarctic & arctic in the 18 th &19 th century ,England Russia made incredible contribution. Dampier returned to England in 1701 from his voyage to new Holland(Australia)but nearly 70 years passed before the English were prepared to send another expedition to investigate further ther the mysterious land in the south. The English naval officer &explorer ,James cook was born at martonin Yorkshire on October 27,1728.he joined the navy in 1755,& from 1759 to 1767 was engaged in surveying the st.lawrance river & the costs of labrader and Newfoundland .

The accuracy of charts &observations cook made of his region brought him to the attention of the Royal society of London. In 1768, he was appointed to command Endeavour with70 men to observe a transit of the planet venues near Tahiti, & to conduct geographical research in the south pacific ocean. Having circumnavigated the whole of Newzealand, he opined that Tasman had wrongly assumed New Zealand &sailed away to the west & reached New Holland. He passed along the eastern coast of Australia & gave names to various capes & bays. On may, 10 1768 his ship hit against the Great Coral Reef. The ship developed a leak & they were threatened with total destruction. The sailors were also showing the signs of survey .

The prospects of further exploration were not navigation became difficult & captain cook himself almost gave up hope. They, however reached the northern promontory of the land which he named as York Cape . Captain Cook & his friends finally reached by the dutch there. Since leaving Plymouth two years before, cook had only last seven men altogether , three by drowning, two frozen, one from consumption , one from poisoning but none from survey. But the climate of batania now wrought have among the men. One after & other died, & so many were weakened with fever that only 20 officers & men were left on duty at one time. Captain Cook & his team returned to London after a lapse of three years.

Caption cooks next expedition, from 1772 to 1775,was undertaken to determined the extend of a possible Antarctic continent. Cook with the Resolution & adventures circled the Antarctic region from Newzeland to cape horn, and also discovered new Georgia Solomon islands new Caledonia, and loyalty island. The royal society awarded him the copley medal for his for his successful measures for preventing serve and fever among members of the expedition

James cook was born on October 27 ,1728in marton yorkshire . His father was a Scottish migrant farm worker who allowed James to apprentice on coal carrying boats at the age of 18 while working in the north sea Cook spent his free time learning math's and navigation. James cook was the English naval officer &explorer. He joined the navy in1755, &from 1759 to 1767 was engaged in surveying the st . Lawrence river. Cook & his companies spent about months around new Zealand & sailed away to the west & reached new Holland. On 10 may, 1768 his ship hit against the great coral reef.

Cook was on an apprentice to a shipping company at the age 15,and joined the British navy in 1755 at the age of 27. Cook was promoted to caption and elected as a fellow of the royal society. In the matter of exploring Australia ,Antarctic and arctic in the 18 th 19 th century England and Russia made incredible and Tasman touched different parts of Australia. On 14 th February 1779 ,cook was stabbed to death by hawaiin natives.
