Inside My Creative Spirit:

Inside My Creative Spirit Tawiah Finley TEG 503: Teaching the Creatively Gifted and Talented Child Dr. Jessica Cannaday

Creativity Began with Creation:

Creativity Began with Creation “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them .” Genesis 1:27

From Creation to Creativity:

From Creation to Creativity “For this is what the LORD says--he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited--he says: "I am the LORD, and there is no other .” Isaiah 45:18 “ We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith . If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully . Romans 12:6-8

What Is Creativity?:

What Is Creativity? "People are creative when they can solve problems, create products or raise issues in a domain in a way that is initially novel but is eventually accepted in one or more cultural settings...The acid test of creativity is simple: in the wake of a putatively creative work, has the domain subsequently been changed ?” -Howard Gardner, 2000

How do we recognize creativity?:

How do we recognize creativity? Problem solving Invention Adaptation Performance Inquiry Many others… Creativity has many functions and forms

Creativity is a Blessing:

Creativity is a Blessing I believe the greatest blessing that God has created in my life is an insatiable curiosity. As a child, this blessing was often seen as an annoyance as I asked incessant questions and wanted to debate topics that were typically not up for discussion. However, as a Christian woman and as a teacher, this curiosity has recently led me to seek out to understand the unique perspectives of others including the parents and students that I serve. I believe without this gift I would be very limited in my ability to differentiate the services I deliver in my current role.

Creativity in the Professional Arena:

Creativity in the Professional Arena As an inquisitive person, scientific exploration was a natural fit for me. In the role of classroom teacher, I was able to use my own experiences with inquiry and science, along with a little creativity to encourage students to explore their own scientific questions.

Creativity in the Personal Arena:

Creativity in the Personal Arena In my personal life I use my creativity to share the joys of inquiry with my children and family. This includes getting them to see science with same fascination that I do, which in turn often leads me to strategies children in my classroom may also benefit from.
