The colony existed of what is now Manhattan. The Duke of York’s brother, King Charles the second, sent warships to attack the Dutch in 1664 and renamed it New York City. Today there are 5 boroughs: The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. Today there are 18,976,457 people living here.Times Square: Times Square Times Square is a major commercial intersection in Manhattan. Formerly named Longace Square, Times Square was renamed in April 1904. Times Square is nicknamed ‘The Crossroads of the World’. Times Square is a national landmark.Statue of Liberty: Statue of Liberty Statue of Liberty was designed by Frederic Berthold and dedicated on October 28, 1886. It is a female figure representing the roman goddess of freedom, with a torch and a tablet saying the law that say the date of the American Declaration of Independence. A broken chain lies at her feet, this statue is a symbol of freedom.Twin Towers: Twin Towers The twin towers are the two tallest building in Manhattan at that time. They collapsed after the 9/11 attack on September 11, 2001.World Trade Center: World Trade Center The World Trade Center was designed by Minoru Yamasaki in early 1960’s. The complex was located in the heart of New York City’s downtown district.Central Park: Central Park Central Park is a public park in the center of Manhattan. The park initially opened in 1857, on 843 acres of land.Empire State Building: Empire State Building Empire State Building is a 102-story landmark. It is 1,250 feet long. The tallest building in New York City.Tavern on the Green: Tavern on the Green Tavern on the Green was a restaurant in Central Park. It was open from 1934 to 2009.
