It is a sequence of events involving the formation, alteration, destruction, and reformation of rocks as a result of natural processes ... All right that’s a little too complicated basically the Rock Cycle is how rocks change. These are the three types of rocks : These are the three types of rocks Sedimentary Igneous Metamorphic This is how rocks change : This is how rocks change James Hutton : James Hutton He came up with the idea of the rock cycle to explain how rocks naturally change. Once a rock, always a rock : Once a rock, always a rock Rocks are neither created nor destroyed, but redistributed and transformed from one rock type to another. Igneous to sedimentary : Igneous to sedimentary The igneous rock granite can be physically weathered to produce clay and sand. These can be transported, deposited and lithified to form sedimentary rocks. Sand can become sandstone through lithification. Sedimentary Rock!!! : Sedimentary Rock!!! It covers lots of the land surface of the earth. You can find fossils in sedimentary rocks. Igneous Rocks!!! : Igneous Rocks!!! They are made when rocks melt into magma and then cool into rock. Metamorphic Rocks!!! : Metamorphic Rocks!!! Pressure, heat and fluids cause rocks to become Metamorphic Rocks.
