A History : A History The club was founded in 1878 and was named Newton Heath by the group of railway workers who played for them, and are now the biggest and richest club in the world. They moved to present ground Old Trafford in 1910 which cost a then huge sum of £60,000 to build. Famous players over the years have included George Best, Sir Bobby Charlton, Dennis law, Eric Cantona, and David Beckham. The Glazinator : The Glazinator Glazer took over a small watch making company after his fathers death in 1943. His father left him £300 and the family business. Over the next thirty years, the aspiring businessman steadily transformed his small inheritance into a growing business empire, thanks to a series of shrewd investments A Bit About Him : A Bit About Him In 1995, he paid $192m for the underperforming NFL football team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, this was considered a huge gamble as the Buccaneers one of the poorest teams in the country. The gamble paid off and that same year, the Buccaneers went on to win the Superbowl His investment in the club was said to have quadrupled in value. Another Bit About Him : Another Bit About Him The Man U fans have strongly opposed the takeover as Glazer has been known to raise ticket prices to maximise profit. They also see Glazers bid as an attempt to turn Man U into a money making company instead of the great football team we all know. What Will He Do? : What Will He Do? In order to pay off the £540 million debt Mr.Glazer now has he could: Negotiate A new Premiership TV rights package. Increase market revenue. Renaming the stadium. Increase ticket prices. Selling Old Trafford. Finances : Finances Man U are regarded as the biggest football club in the world. They have the highest revenue for any football team and are leagues ahead of their English counterparts. Taking in over £250million in 2003 Slide 8: The majority of Man Uās commercial revenue comes from merchandise. This is due to the team having a large fan base both within the UK and abroad, especially in the far east. Other large sums of money come from their high profile sponsorship deal with vodafone and many other sponsors Commercial Revenue Media Revenue : Media Revenue The Club gains a huge amount of income from its sponsor ship deal with BSkyB. The Champions League is also a big money maker, giving the club around £18million ever time they enter the league stages of the competition. Match day Income : Match day Income Season tickets keep the club going, and give Man U just under £30million per year. Other games contribute towards the match day income such as Champions League games, friendlies and tours.
