The Plant CellParts and Functions Cell Membrane: Protective barrier that lets things in and out of a cell Cell wall: Protects the cell and gives the cell strength and shape Cytoplasm: Jelly-like filling Chloroplast: Collects sunlight for photosynthesis Nucleus: Controls the cell and holds DNA Nuclear Membrane: Protects the nucleus and lets things in and out of the nucleus Nucleolus: Makes ribosomes Chromosomes: Hold genetic info Endoplasmic Reticulum: Transport system, usually carries ribosomes Ribosome: Makes proteins Vacuole: Storage Mitochondria: Power plant for cell, makes energy to run cell activities Lysosomes: Digest old cell parts waste, invaders Golgi Complex: Packages proteins into a bubble to ship to other parts of the cell or out of the cell Cytoskeleton: Provides a place for organelles to attach, helps organelles within the cell, helps with cell division
