When I look outside after a snow storm I can see tracks of animals like deer and rabbits. The whole backyard is a flat, glistening landscape. The bright sun shines down on the white snow making everything look clean and fresh. When I walk, my boots sink into the fluffy snow. I pick up some snow and it falls through my gloves like powder. It is very quiet except for the twittering of a lonely bird. All of a sudden, THWUMP! “Got you!” yelled my sister as a snowball hit me in the head. “this means war!” I declared. - Alison:

My favorite snow activity is snowboarding. When I go fast, snow blows right into my face. Sometimes I grind or turn so fast I touch the ground. Skimming over the snow feels nice and smooth. - Gus :

The night before a snow storm I think, “Are we going to have a snow day? Will we get lots of snow? A couple of inches? Or maybe a foot!” I start planning what I am going to do first. I feel so excited. I mean, we don’t get snow very often and if we do it’s normally not a lot. Sometimes I can’t fall asleep because I’m so happy that we might get snow. - Alexandra:

The frosted, frozen ground crinched and crunched under my boots. The freezing snow came down lightly onto my brown hair making it look very much like I had milk-white hair. Off in the distance I could hear small trees snapping and falling by the weight of the snow. The smell of my toasty warm fireplace drifted out of my chimney and settled on the new fallen snow. - Sam L. :

The minute I step outside after a snow storm I feel like I am going to explode with excitement. I glance around at the winter wonderland. I notice that it is very quiet. I see that trees look white and the ground is like a white blanket. - Sam C. :

My favorite snow day activity is to go sledding with my family and my grandparents on a golf course. As soon as we get to the hill we start sledding. We have tracks made for each sled and little footpaths between them so we can walk back to the top of the hill. My least favorite part of sledding is trudging back up the hill. It is very hard to walk in the snow, especially with a big sled! It feels like bricks or cinderblocks are tied to your boots. I fall in the snow so much because it is very hard to walk uphill in deep snow! - Margot:

I ran outside into the joyful snow to a nice open spot. “This is the perfect spot to make a snowman.” I thought. I started with a little ball and rolled it over my yard. The ball felt cold and icy. I watched it go round and round. Then all of a sudden I had a gigantic snowball, fabulous for the bottom ball of a snowman. I placed it on the ground and rolled a smaller ball and placed that on top of the big ball. Then, another minute later, I had a whole snowman but I still had to make its face. So I got some rocks from my collection for eyes, also some twigs, a hat and a scarf. I placed the decorations on the snowman. I admired my glistening, magnificent snowman. What a day! - Amanda :

“Blow, blow” went the gusting winds. The snow on the ground was as white as a cloud. Some of the snow drifted over the ground and snow tornadoes spun across the dazzling surface. - Tommy :

My favorite winter activity is skiing. My grip tightens on my poles to get ready to fly down the trail. Very slightly my skis go “swish, swish” in the snow. The wind blows right into my face and I smell the fresh air of pine trees and snow. - Sam K.:

When I make “snow angels” I just plop down in the snow and wave my arms and legs from side to side. - Jacob:

My house was covered in snow. I ran downstairs to eat breakfast as quick as I could. Then I fluttered to my room to get my snow pants, jacket, gloves, hat and… (sigh) boots. Thump! I tumbled down the stairs and opened the door. “Woo wee!” The snow was sparkling. It looked like there were crystals everywhere. - Cassidy :

When I was flying down the hill on my sled I felt the wind in my face. It was hard to ignore the sound of kids laughing and racing toward me on their sleds. I detected kids making jumps to jump and topple over. - Derek :

After a snow storm when I look out of the window it looks like little cotton balls hanging from the trees. It looks like a whole winter wonderland. I notice how in the sunlight the snow sparkles. Then when I step outside and feel the snow, it feels as cold as Antarctica. - Taylor :

My favorite winter activity is going to Eagles Mere, Pennsylvania and going on the huge toboggan sled. You can hear the treads of the toboggan screeching down the big hill and all the way across the lake on the ice. Going down the hill on the 12 passenger sled is a big blur. It’s even a blur watching it go down. - Hope :

When I walked outside the snow sparkled in the light. The snow looked like a puffy white blanket. There was a faint scent of sweet hot cocoa my mom was making inside. It was hard to ignore the sound of my boots crunching in the snow. I felt my rosy red cheeks getting so cold that they felt burning hot like cookies out of an oven. In the distance I spied a little snowman, perfectly round. It had a purple little hat and gloves. - Maggie:

When I woke up I was so excited to make an igloo. I pictured what the yard was going to look like. It would be gleaming brightly because of the snow. I dashed outside and got right to work. I started making the blocks of snow. Then I stacked the blocks right to the top but I didn’t know what to do for the top bricks. So I ran inside and grabbed my igloo making directions and they showed me how to do the top blocks. So I placed the top blocks on…and they stayed there! That was a relief. - Autumn :
