CAPOEIRA Capoeira - Brazilian martial art, to the rythm of the music

Slide26:

In 1492, the colonisation of America began. Especially British and Portuguese wanted to establish farms of silk. They needed people to work, so they took black slaves from Africa. They had no weapons and they couldn’t learn any martial art, but they wanted to defend themselves from the white. They created a type of fight, which looked like a dance.

Slide27:

In 1990’s some capoeira teachers came to Poland, and it became very popular. Capoeira clubs are nearly in every town. People of all ages attend them. These people don’t take it only as a way of defending themselves, but also as a beautiful dance and a great way of developing their body.

Slide28:

Types: ANGOLA It comes from Angola in Africa, it was created by Mestre Pastinha in Bahia city. These are slower moves, close to the ground. It’s basic and the oldest type of capoeira.

Slide29:

MACULELE DANCE It’s a kind of traditional dance with a stick or a sword.

Slide32:

Small capoeira dictionary: Abady - trousers. The most basic part of warrior’s cloth. Camisa - T-shirt, always with a logo of school, where you practise capoeira. Cardao - means rope, it’s a kind of belt. The Colour of the belt means how good at capoeira someone is. Batizado - test, exame

Slide33:

Berimbau - main instruments (Viola, Media and Gunga), which give rythm to other instruments and to the dance Atabaque - huge drum Pandeiro - a kind of small drum

Slide34:

Something about me - Aleksandra Piotrowska Not long time ago I was training capoeira. I was practising it in the capoeira club in Bytom. I had trainings two times a week and although they were very tiring, I really liked them. Now I don’t practise. I felt a bit alone in our club, as I was the only girl and now I train funky.
