The Act also provides $77 billion for reforms to strengthen elementary and secondary education, including $48.6 billion to stabilize state education budgets (of which $8.8 billion may be used for other government services) President’s Education Plan. : President’s Education Plan. The Act provides $5 billion in competitive funds to spur innovation and chart ambitious reform to close the achievement gap. The Act includes over $30 billion to address college affordability and improve access to higher education. Any college experience produces a measurable return when compared with non, but the benefits of completing a Bachelor’s degree or higher are particularly larger Higher Education Pros to the Society : Higher Education Pros to the Society Higher levels of education correspond to lower unemployment and poverty rates College students have lower smoking rates, more positive perceptions of person health, and healthier lifestyle than individuals who did not graduate from college Correspond to being more involved with the community. For example, volunteer work, voting, and blood donations as well as with greater levels of openness to the opinions of others. How Budget Cuts Effect CSUDH : How Budget Cuts Effect CSUDH Slide 26: Enrollment numbers has dropped over the past year. Elimination of Departments and programs such as the student newspaper closure of the women's resource center elimination of programs in the Electronic Media Programming Production. Decrease in class availability Increase in class sizes Increase in faculty workload Slide 27: layoff of part time faculty Enrollment reduction Student fees increase With the $584 million reduction in CSU's 2009-10 budget, CSU is required to reduce overall student enrollment. Because of reduced enrollment spaces for new students, CSU campuses may be required to restrict the application options. Some campuses, however, will continue to receive applications for some admission categories and terms of entrance. Slide 28: FY 2009/10 CAMPUS FURLOUGH INFORMATION As a result of the state budget crisis and cuts in state support to the California State University, CSU employees are being required to not work an average of two days per month from August 1, 2009, through June 30, 2010. August 14 and 21, 2009 are State Budget Closure Days on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills. All offices, except University Police and Housing are closed.
