Our spring months are... :

Our spring months are... September, October and November New seasons in Australia always begin on the first day of the month. So spring begins on September 1st and finishes on November 30th. We live in the southern hemisphere.

Our state is Victoria. The capital city of Victoria is Melbourne. We live in Geelong, one hour from Melbourne. The average temperature in Melbourne during spring is around 17 degrees Celsius. Victoria’s spring weather is very unpredictable. The weather can be warm and sunny, cold, windy and rainy all within a couple of days (or sometimes all on the same day!) People often say that Melbourne’s weather can have four seasons in one day! Melbourne, Victoria.

Special events in Spring... :

Special events in Spring... The AFL Grand Final. The AFL (Australian Football League) is a football competition held from March until September. There are 16 teams from all around Australia and it is a very popular sport to watch and play, especially in Melbourne. This year Collingwood won the Grand Final. They played St.Kilda. When they played in the Grand Final in September, it was actually a draw! So there was a Grand Final replay the following Saturday. Each team also has a mascot. Collingwood has a magpie mascot. A magpie is a black and white Australian bird. Geelong (where we live) also has a team in the AFL. Their mascot is a cat.

The Spring Racing Carnival :

The Spring Racing Carnival The Spring Racing Carnival is a series of important horse racing events that happens in October and November. Horses from around the world travel to Melbourne to compete in these special races. People get very dressed up and wear hats to the racing. There is a Fashions on the Field competition for the best dressed people at the races. The Melbourne Cup is the biggest event in the Spring Racing Carnival. This year was the 150th Melbourne Cup and an international horse named Americain won. You can read more about the Melbourne Cup on our blog post here. Special events in Spring...
