Presentation Description

I recently wrote an op-ed for my English class. I was arguing why films about 9/11 are beneficial towards younger generations who have a vague understanding of that day, and for those who weren't born. I realize 9/11 was and is hard on a lot of people. But I think those who died should continue to be honored by future generations.

9/11…on the big screen?:

9/11…on the big screen? Are 9/11 F ilms Beneficial T owards Younger Generations?

United 93:

United 93 In 2006, a film entitled United 93 was brought to theaters by Universal Studios. It told the story of the bravery and terror that occurred on Flight 93. Families of victims were upset to see the films preview attached to other films and were extremely against Hollywood “exploiting” the tragedy.

A DAY THAT SHOULD NEVER BE FORGOTTEN:

A DAY THAT SHOULD NEVER BE FORGOTTEN As Americans, it is important to acknowledge our country’s history. 9/11 is a day that should never be ignored . If we do not ensure that future generations have an understanding of that solemn day, we are dishonoring those who fight for our country, and the many innocent lives that were lost. I was very young when 9/11 happened and have benefited from watching movies and documentaries on the subject.

Acknowledging our past… so we can look toward the future…:

Acknowledging our past… so we can look toward the future… Some seem to want to put September 11 th on a shelf to collect dust. The truth of the matter is, how can we pretend that day no longer existed ? How can we live in this great country and refuse to acknowledge the many lives that were lost? Time should allow healing, not forgetfulness. These 40 ordinary people sat down as strangers, and stood up as one .

Was It Released too soon...?:

Was It Released too soon...? Those against “United 93” did have a point when they claimed that the film was released too soon after the attacks. Families of 9/11 victims deserve sensitivity and empathy. There is a way to be sensitive to families and at the same time educate future generations, who otherwise might know little to nothing about 9/11.

What is The Appropriate Blue-print to Follow When Making a 9/11 Film…?:

What is The Appropriate Blue-print to Follow When Making a 9/11 Film…? When films about 9/11 are made, studios constantly face the challenge of making sure the film is appropriately representing the event. September 11 th is a very significant day in American history and it is important for a film to re create the events as realistically possible . Films based on historical tragedies need to be produced because they serve as excellent methods in educating younger generations who are not well-informed .

Families Can Find Peace…:

Families Can Find Peace… Films are a way to depict in a very real way, just how serious 9.11 was. The victims of that day should and deserve to be remembered. Families can find a great deal of comfort knowing newer generations can grow up with a sense of sensitivity toward the tragedy, and sympathy towards the thousands of innocent lives that were lost. Families can find peace knowing films can honor their loved ones and show future generations the strength America gained to move toward the future.

Reflecting Absence…:

Reflecting Absence… On September 11 th , 2011. America faced the 10 th anniversary of 9/11. A memorial called “Reflecting Absence” was created, memorializing the lives lost in the 1993 and 2001 attacks. The memorial is made up of the two footprints, exactly where the towers stood. They are filled with water. Etched in stone surrounding the fountains, are the names of all those who lost their lives.

Never Forget:

Never Forget 9/11 is a day that will always be a reminder of what we have lost as Americans. In spite of the pain Americans feel at the mention of that day, it is nonetheless a day that should never be ignored or misunderstood. Families can find a sense of comfort knowing future generations of Americans can honor the lives of their loved ones.
