KEY ISSUES RAISED:
KEY ISSUES RAISED Perceived lack of broader stakeholder participation in drafting of the Plan – is Plan within Public Transport Strategy?
Access of non-host cities to funding from PTIF – preparing as possible practice grounds
Accessibility of public transport – especially for people living with disabilities
Share of International and Domestic spectators between different modes and on inner- and inter city routes?
Improved coordination between spheres of government and provinces must be kept in the loop where NDOT link directly with municipalities
Public Transport must always be an integral part of the planning for hosting the 2010, especially on municipal level
KEY ISSUES RAISED (2):
KEY ISSUES RAISED (2) Businesses should be encouraged to allow employees to take leave in June/July in stead of the normal December period, so that domestic home-work travel during the peak period can be limited to absolute a minimum
2010 must be a real South African/Africa experience. 2010 should find us as we are in a “polished state”, ie good, new vehicles, well trained drivers, etc.
Route based operating licenses will be an obstacle, especially from a tourist perspective
Need proper integrated public transport terminals and not necessarily ranks as we know it
Possible lack of foreign languages proficiencies and capabilities
NOTED:
NOTED The Commission noted the following:
That South Africa is hosting the first Africa FIFA 2010 Soccer World Cup, the biggest event on the sporting calendar in the world.
The event affords us an opportunity to create an efficient, safe, affordable, accessible, reliable and an environmentally friendly public transport inter-modal system (busses, taxis, trains, air and sea transport) for our commuters even beyond the world cup - leaving a legacy.
NOTED (2):
NOTED (2) Further noting:
We have now developed an Integrated Transport Action Plan for 2010.
It is imperative that the following programmes must be incorporated immediately in the Transport Action Plan for 2010:
Aviation Freight
Host Cities Plans
Maritime
The Transport Action Plan must be read together with other plans around 2010, i.e. Business opportunities, tourism, safety, etc
RESOLUTION:
RESOLUTION The Commission resolves as follows:
To support the 2010 Transport Action Plan.
To provide a world-class eco-friendly public transport system for the World Cup.
To work together with FIFA to ensure that the World Cup takes place, taking into account the best conditions for hosting the World Cup in South Africa, so that we get the maximum benefits for the economy, soccer community and to experience the culture and hospitality of the South African way of life.
To tirelessly ensure that all stakeholders work together to create an efficient, safe, affordable, accessible, reliable and environment friendly public transport system.
RESOLUTION (2):
RESOLUTION (2) To support inclusive economic participation, a special operating licensing dispensation for public transport providers, should be considered during the World Cup period.
That DOT enhances the monitoring and evaluation team, and publishes regular updates on project progress, including procurement targets with focus on the designated groups.
That an intensive communication plan should be developed to popularise the 2010 Transport Action Plan.
