NYS Tech Prep Strategic Plan 2000-2005: 

NYS Tech Prep Strategic Plan 2000-2005 Facilitated by Marcia Drumm and Linda Miller as of July 2000

Purpose:: 

Purpose: Develop a Strategic Plan with an action component to continue Tech Prep in New York State.

5 Goals …..: 

5 Goals ….. Design and develop a consistent statewide image and message. Develop strong, effective partnerships between high schools, colleges, businesses, labor unions, Workforce Development Boards, and the NYS Education Department.

5 Goals ….. Institutionalize Tech Prep in state and local educational systems. Develop consistent statewide Tech Prep programs and applied academics to increase recognition value and student access.

5 Goals ….. Align Tech Prep with the NYS Learning Standards and the SUNY General Education requirements to provide Tech Prep students with the ability to achieve success on these academic standards.

I. Design and develop a consistent statewide image and message. Develop statewide marketing strategies. Promote Tech Prep as an economic development strategy. Advocate for state funding to support Tech Prep programs and consortia. Establish consistent an frequent communication between Tech Prep and SED entities.

I. Design and develop a consistent statewide image and message. (cont.) Establish a connection and a flow of communication with local WFD Boards and/or Youth Councils. Collaborate with professional education organizations.

II. Develop strong, effective partnerships between high schools, colleges, businesses, labor unions, WFD Boards, and NYSED.: 

II. Develop strong, effective partnerships between high schools, colleges, businesses, labor unions, WFD Boards, and NYSED. In order to use Tech Prep as an economic tool, directly involve Economic Development entities in Tech Prep programs & planning. Create an effective reciprocal relationship with all NYS entities that relate to Tech Prep issues with decision makers and school representatives.

Advocate for representation on all NYS initiatives that address related Tech Prep issues. Establish a Business Advisory Committee to provide an advisement mechanism to Tech Prep on workforce demands and skill requirements.

III. Institutionalize Tech Prep in state and local educational systems. Identify successful components that contribute to the institutionalization and sustainability of Tech Prep. Establish data information to demonstrate the value of Tech Prep. Provide evidence of Tech Prep success and validity to national political structure. Existing Tech Prep consortia leadership will be actively involved in the decisions regarding the direction of NYS Tech Prep.

Provide statewide and cost efficient staff development. Expand the use of educational technology in Tech Prep.

Timely dissemination of NYS assessment information & results.
