Goals and Objectives: 

Goals and Objectives To provide a forum for discussion of fire safety, codes, standards development, conformity assessment, and regulation between the United States and China that: Addresses the role and authority of fire protection across relevant agencies and organizations Discusses best practices in developing comprehensive and sound fire protection systems in a way that: safeguards public safety raises the degree of confidence in the integrity of products on the market; and enhances trade of related goods and services Identifies current and future challenges on which the United States and China could cooperate

Workshop structure: 

Workshop structure Day 1: Overview of the issue at hand Day 2: Discussion on conformity assessment systems Day 3: Development and application of codes Day 4: Aspects of standards development and application Day 5: Implementing the above

Workshop Overview: 

Workshop Overview Presentations from US and Chinese experts Site visits to address specific issues Site visit on Day 1 to provide a holistic view, i.e., how do the different parts fit together Site visit on Day 2 to highlight the role of fundamental and applied research & development; and metrology underlying standards and codes development Site visit on Day 3 to highlight a regulator’s approach to the issue Opportunities for discussions in each section Final break-out session

Expectations: 

Expectations Learn about systems and processes for conformity assessment, codes and standards development in each other’s countries Learn how these are implemented Understand better the factors making each system unique Identify avenues for cooperation in standards and codes development Identify areas for possible collaboration in research and metrology
