To discuss & identify the key information needed & how to plan ‘Smart’ to ensure progress is made & maintained. To identify the key partners you will need to ensure progress can be made & promoted. To identify the essential components of an effective school PE & School Sport ‘policy’ To identify what happens next & the next modules available to support you. Context of School Sport Partnerships: Context of School Sport Partnerships Government Agenda A ‘PSA’ target The National PESSCL Strategy Sports Colleges Swimming CPD School to Club links PESS study Step into Sport School Sport PartnershipsThe Public Service Agreement – target: The Public Service Agreement – target Enhance the take up of sporting opportunities by 5 to 16 year olds by increasing the percentage of school children who spend a minimum of two hours each week on high quality PE and school sport, within and beyond the curriculum, from 25% in 2002 to 75% by 2006 and to 85% by 2008, and to at least 75% in each SSP by 2008. Already achieved the National target a full year early. 2010 Ambition: 2010 that 100% of 5 to 16 year olds 2 hours of HQ PE & school sport & that 100% 5 to 18 year olds will be participating in at least 3 hours of community physical activity Slide6: Youth Sport Trust In charge of national roll Out of PESSCL in SSP’s & Designation & support for Sports Colleges Support to SSP’s on a needs basis Through regular review & seminars Provide Network training & consultation to SSP’s Who are our key partners in achieving these aims?Slide7: County Sports Partnership (CSP) West Yorkshire Sport based in Huddersfield “By 2009 there will be a network of quality partnerships & key agencies Committed to providing a single system For all people to benefit from sport & active Recreation in West Yorkshire” Provide specific SSP focus & support Through education, PESSCL & Club development groups Provide strategical direction on Key projects such as Step into Sport, volunteering & community Club developmentSlide8: The 5 Leeds SSP’s Carr Manor Boston Spa Rodillion St Mary’s Priesthorpe The 5 SSP’s include all schools in Leeds. They all follow the PESSCL outcomes but All started life at different times, have differing contexts/factors to consider & individual strengths. They use a range of local forums created to ensure work is Shared & planned strategically. Education Leeds provide a more local slant on how the PESSCL agenda will be delivered Across the city. They provide a PESSCL strategy document & have set up a number of Local strategical working groups & meeting forums to support the work of SSP’s.Slide9: Other local strategical partners Leeds City Council Sports Dev Unit Based at JCCS Provide key sport specific & Community based officers Increasing participation, provide Wide range of opportunities, support Community club development & run Leeds schools ‘Activate’ scheme. Brainstorm & discuss the role of the PLT & then decide the 5 most important responsibilities that a PLT should have (10 minutes). Discussion & look at standard national R & R’s (handout).
