Today, we are going to find out more about Giraffes. Giraffes are our favourite animals, and they are so cute! 2 Slide4: Giraffes are the tallest mammal. Giraffes live up to 25 years. Giraffes are the 18th fastest mammal. Giraffe’s long necks help them to reach up high into the trees. Giraffes have long tongues to pull food into their mouths. Giraffes can’t bend their necks. Giraffes are mainly brown with spots. 3 Slide5: We found out that giraffes eat shoots, leaves off trees and shrubs. Sometimes they eat fruit and flowers. Daniela found out that giraffes take turns to drink from a waterhole, and the others keep a look out for predators. 4 Slide6: Tessa discovered that giraffes live in grasslands and open woodlands. They live in Africa and the South Sahara desert. 5 Slide7: We read in the mammal book that giraffes are in the mammal family along with many other animals. They are also a type of large herbivores, like other animals in Africa. 6 Slide8: Daniela read in the animal book that giraffe’s predators are mainly lions and hyenas. They mainly try to attack their small babies. 7 Slide9: Tessa researched and found out that giraffes are not threatened by humans, but in the wild, small numbers are slowly getting smaller. Daniela knows that giraffes are calm animals and are not used to humans, but if you help to look after giraffes, they will be your friends for ever. 8 Slide10: Giraffes- a tall, African four-legged animal with a long neck. Shrubs- a low, bushy plant. Waterhole- a pond or pool in a dry area. Predators- an animal that kills and eats other animals. Grasslands- land that covered with grass. Hyenas- a dog-like animal from Asia and Africa that hunts in packs. 9 Slide11: We got our information from these books: Pocket fact file of mammals by Ken Fin. Amazing animal facts by Jacqui Bailey. The world of animals by Jackie Gaff. We got our map of Africa from Google images. 10 Slide12: Our book is about finding out more about our giraffe friends.
