Advisory is one of those key features that creates conditions for every student to be known, acknowledged, and supported. Program Vision: Program Vision Our vision is to create an equitable school culture where every student feels supported, acknowledged, and cared for through meaningful relationships. Program Mission: Program Mission To create a grade-level appropriate advisory program that engages students in authentic learning and fosters relationships so that all students can fully reach their academic potential with the support and guidance of an adult advisor. Program Goals: Program Goals Goal 1. 70% of ESS students will know what it looks like and takes to be successful in school and develop the appropriate skills necessary to ensure success Key priorities include study skills, test prep, goal setting, and literacy skills. Program Goals: Program Goals Goal 2. 70% of ESS students will gain an awareness of post secondary options, and develop a comprehensive plan Key priorities include college and career exploration, post-secondary planning, and the creation of a portfolio. Program Connections: Program Connections District Vision Statement Small Learning Communities Content Curriculum WASC Findings Brief History of Advisory Program: Brief History of Advisory Program Leadership: Leadership Year One The BayCES coach managed and coordinated all aspects of the advisory program. An ad hoc group of 4-6 staff members met on a monthly basis to give feedback and suggestions. Year Two Six grade-level coordinators manage, direct, and coordinate all aspects of their grade-level program. The BayCES coach now provides support to individual coordinators as needs arise. Assessments: Assessments Year One One student survey was administered to get feedback on a range of topics, some including aspects of the advisory program. Year Two All grade-levels complete surveys, rubrics, or portfolio assessments from 1-3 times per semester. The data is reviewed by advisors to adjust and meet the needs of their advisees. Connections to SLC: Connections to SLC Year One Advisory was not utilized as a structure to support the goals and priorities of the SLCs. It was seen more as a separate entity. Year Two Advisory is becoming more utilized to complement and help address SLC goals and priorities (e.g., interventions, goal-setting, conferencing, strategic tutoring, etc.). Successes and Celebrations: Successes and Celebrations Successes and Celebrations 7th Grade (% of students who said yes): Successes and Celebrations 7th Grade (% of students who said yes) develop a yearly comprehensive College and Career portfolio that documents their personal, social, and academic journey through school.
