The Chechnya War 1994-1996 Chechnya, a terminally unwilling member of the Soviet Union, declared independence when the Soviet Union broke apart in 1991. President Yeltsin responded immediately with military force, which had little impact. In 1994, the conflict between Russia and militant Chechen separatists grew into a war. Russian losses were significant, and the war concluded with a 1996 peace agreement that granted Chechnya substantial autonomy .

Mt. St Helens Erupts in 1980 Within 15 to 20 seconds the volcanoes bulge and summit slid away in a huge landslide. The largest in Earths history. This lateral blast of hot material accelerated in at least 300mph The blast could traveled 17 miles northward from the volcano. Less than an hour later a second eruption occurred. Winds blew 520 million tons of ash eastward across the United states causing darkness. The hot rocks and ash quickly melted the snow and ice capping the volcano, creating surges of water that eroded and mixed with loose rock and debris to form volcanic mudflows and these poured down into the rivers and valleys, ripping trees from their roots and destroying roads and bridges.

On September 1, 1983, 269 innocent passengers, people were shot down over the Sea of Japan by Soviet interceptors.

Initially, the Soviets denied knowledge of the incident. Eventually admitting that they had indeed shot the aircraft down, they claimed it was on a spy mission. According to the Politburo, it was a deliberate provocation by the U.S. to test the Soviet Union’s war preparedness, or even to provoke a war. Consequently, the incident was never resolved…
